And apparently Ranger frames are pretty goofy. Just past the cab the frame curves upwards so it made it very awkward to jack up on and get jackstands underneith. Jacking on the axle (pumpkin) wasn't really an option because I needed to be able to move the axle up and down while replacing the leaf springs.... so I resorted to other options for a jackstand

in its defense, it has 230k miles

But it's 20 years old. And a Wisconsin truck. :confused

Or are you more concerned about the design issues?

Quality frame probably built in Milwackee by A.O. Smith.

Complaining about a rust on 20 year three hundred dollar beater with a million miles logged in salt mine for the loss. :thumbsup

You should see the failures on Ford 57" leaf springs. Almost always break at the center pin.

Mike, honestly, what do you expect with a 20 year old truck that gets driven year round. However, in your defense, the square rangers, like yours, do tend to rust a lot. If you were to compare my 97 ranger (172,000) to the 89 ranger that my buddy now has (jer's old ranger) you will see a huge difference in the amount of rust on the two vehicles. Not bad for 7 years difference....the rustiest part of the 97 is the exhaust system.

Must have got a bad Ranger?

Toyota takes rust seriously, above the 15yr rust thru warranty they offerd to buy back every 95-2000 pickup built:

*Toyota will repurchase your Tacoma at 1.5 times the Kelley Blue Book
Suggested Retail Value (excellent condition)
* Toyota is offering each customer a complimentary loaner vehicle
while you are considering alternative transportation options
* Toyota is offering a $1,000 owner loyalty rebate for customers who
purchase a replacement Tacoma or Tundra
* Toyota is offering a $500 owner loyalty rebate for customers who
purchase a replacement of any other new Toyota (Scion excluded) or Toyota Certified Used Vehicle
* Any applicable rebates, purchase incentives, and special financing
offers in effect would be in addition to the special offers listed above

One of our members works at Kia, I saw 20 subframes against the wall they where doing if the inside showed potential rust thru for the customer while they waited.

Japan and Korea....making Amaerican Union employees look bad on purpose :(

Wow apparently you chuckleheads can't tell when someone makes a thread out of humor. My 1987 s10 blazer frame and suspension isn't nearly as rusty though...
