My 1.8 VVTi has the usual knock and oil burning issues all these motors seem to develop. Does anyone know where I can get a cheap long block?

Send Mike Cooper (Reverend Cooper) a PM, he works at a Toyota dealer and might have a line on something.....

We picked one up thru craigslist last summer. It was out of an 06 Vibe and it's now in an 01 celica. $600 for the perfectly running long block and trans. Didn't even need the trans. Put it in over a day and a half or so. Not difficult at all. That 1zzfe is used in a lot of cars and they're fairly easy to find..

BTW - Available in:

I just figured it would be cheaper to put a long block in it Coop. Mine has "the knock" too.

As long as it doesnt knock and burn oil, I don't care. If i could I would just trade the damn thing in but I am going through a divorce and have almost no money and I am upside down on the this pos.

the knock,or timing chain noise due to low oil making the tensioner not able to tighten it all the way?

Yes, because it's the one out of my sister's car that had ring problems as well.

It was much easier to swap the engine instead of changing the rings and valve seals which would have taken a lot more time then a weekend. If you can find an used engine from one of the cars RanJer listed, that's most likely the best way to go. We found one out of a Pontiac Vibe on craigslist, so maybe check there every once and awhile.

i just realized your PM was for the wrong engine haha, woops, it is out of a 2001 celica and has very low compression, or else rest of the motor is in good condition. Only has about 100k or so on it
