I went to Detroit last weekend for the Auto show. Auto Show was cool. Nothing really knocked my socks off this year to be honest.

The real fun was I met up with a guy I know from Zilvia (240 site) who does urban exploring and photography and him and his buddies took us to the old Packard Plant. It's been abandoned for 40 years. It stopped producing cars a long time before that. After they stopped making cars there they they used the space for storage of everything under the sun. These dudes told us tons and tons about the going ons there. If I'm ever out having a beer with you ask me about it. Some crazy shit. I didn't get to do any HDR shots because we had a little incident with fire and the fire department coming, but it was a blast being there. I can't wait to go back next year.

Anyway on to the pics. Just some selects. You can view all the images here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/exitspeed/sets/72157623114825483/show/

And I'm planning on going here next year. It's their old Train Station. The inside of this place is supposed to be beautiful.

Neither if that makes sense. it's not like it's open to the public...but NO ONE cares in the least bit. So you just come and go as you please.

There's no bums there at all. There's too much traffic from photographers, tv shows, people filming movies etc.

I would love to tool around there with you if you want someone else to go with you. Check out this site http://www.detroityes.com/home.htm

I love going into run down buildings and factories wondering what the history that was there, and just trying to piece it all together :thumbsup

Well, it is detroit.

That really is so true. You have to go to Detroit to understand the condition this city is in. Our North Side looks like Brookfield compared to the whole city of Detroit. It's really hard to grasp even when you are their.

Great pics! There was a web site I forgot the link to that shows a bunch of abandoned factories like the above in Russia and some guy took tons of pics. It was creepy and awesome at the same time.

Awesome pics...... i dont think milwaukee is gunna be the next detroit. But its sad to see a place like detroit go down so bad? was it just poor local decisions and the car makers?

You're trespassing if you go into any of those buildings. Kind of surprised you didn't find any bodies though. They don't really care though unless you die. And then they only care if they have to come looking for you. There are hundreds of buildings like those to go wander in, just make sure you use the buddy system. And I recommend carrying a gun. It's not just the two-legged animals you have to watch out for.

I realize it's trespassing. But being there you can tell NO ONE gives a shit. I was with 5 other guys who have all been there countless times. So I felt pretty comfortable there. They said they've never found a dead body. But they had stories upon stories of this place.

Do it. It's totally worth the trip. Notice I didn't post pics of the auto show? This was the highlight of my weekend.

Looks like a fun trip, the exploring was probably alot better than the show.

I'm sure MCS would be fun but the Broderick would probably be alot better.
What a junkyard that place is over there, and like said you can always tell someone who knows nothing about Detroit when they strart talking about places around here being "like Detroit".
I mean the closest hole "like Detroit" near here is probably Gary Indiana.

I know there is alot of history there but I think it should probably all be torn down, lot of red tape with tearing it down too as witnessed with the ole Packard.

Indeed. Even the worst parts of Milwaukee aren't even close to a mediocre area in Detroit. Sure area's like Deerborn are nice, kinda like a cross between our Brookfield and Tosa, but MOST of Detroit looks like a war zone.

There was a movie about leveling Detroit and starting over. One of my favorite movies ever: Robocop.

Only Sole and I went. It wasn't really like a big get together trip. Next year we're thinking we're gonna see if other people wanna come.

thanks.

The picture of the three dudes standing there inspired me to make a movie poster for WWZ, the zombie novel that is being made into a movie.
