first off has anybody have any personal experience with one?

Also Im looking for what I guess would be called a Colorado ss or one with the 5.3l vortec. Sadly from what i gather they dont come with a manual trans unless its the 2 wheel drive i4. Also maybe you hpt guys could help answer this what is does hpt support as far as colorados go.

Im looking to get rid of the cobalt. :thumbsup just doing some looking always wanted to have a small truck. maybe with a little pow!

I don't think I've ever seen a Colorado SS.

You sure they actually made them with a 5.3?

As far as I know, neither one of those actually went into production. There was even talk of a LS2 rado.

Also...the I5 does come in a 5-speed manual.

edit: It does appear that the '09+ 3LT package is a 5.3L
Interesting.

when i went to chevy's website it wouldn't let me match a i5 with a manual.

they do make one with a 5.3 vortec but its not 2 wheel drive. which is really what id be looking for.

I drove a 4cyl colorade for work for about 2 years. It was reliable up to around 50-60k, but after that it ran into some problems. It ended up having some electrical problems, and the trans started to slip a bit. It got somewhat hard driven tho. Lots of stop n go, all conditions. We maintained it alright, but it also started to make some valvetrain noise a little while after. I believe the company no longer has it.

the pic you have in your post was a self built custom made "Colorado SS"

There is not yet a SS version and the 8 can only be had in auto......someone correct me if i am wrong......

It's a colorado xtreme as far as the 2wd sport model goes. Hot does support all engines in these trucks. You would be best off with a 4x4 v8 truck so traction isn't an issue. That spinning shit is fun for the first ten min.

i wish they made the 5.3 with a 5 speed manual.

i want something different a small little 2wheel drive truck. im going to talk to the dealers today to see what i cant and cant get. i really wish the 5.3l came with a 5 speed. all the 4 wheel drive ones are lifted at least the ones ive seen at the dealers. i really enjoy and prefer a manual trans.

I have a 2004 I5 auto with 98,000 miles... So far, no major issues... I average about 19 mpg...

I'd be inclined to go with a I-5 2wd 5speed...should net you decent mileage, be peppy but not terribly fast. I test drove a reg cab one a couple years ago but found the price hard to swallow (I think it was around 19,500 for the fairly low optioned one I looked at...).

Get some winter wheels/tires and load up the bed with weight...that should make it decent in the white stuff.

Tom (Badls1 above) had a 4x4 I5 auto ext cab that was unnaturally quick...seriously, all the rag's at the time would put that thing in the low 17's/maybe high 16's, but he would keep up with my bud's ext cab 2wd hemi ram...that ran low 15's at the grove. It wasn't like tom had the latter higher HP I5 either....

Well they only come in auto and extended cab or crew cab for 2wd v8 versions. If the automagic is a deal breaker then your sol on these trucks. Not sure if you can get a stick v8 Dakota anymore?

I'm not even sure you can get manuals with many of the 1/2 ton full-sizes with manual trans anymore...08 was the last Dodge offered them, and you could only get it with the v6 and 4.7 v8. I don't know when chevy stopped offering manual trans on their 1500's.

A 5.3L Colorado can be had in extended cab or crew cab format in 2wd or 4wd, but must be 1LT or greater in trim. A 2wd extended cab one was ~$20k for me when I looked a year ago.

or you can just stop being a leaky vag and just buy a silverado or other similar full sized truck

Keep in mind a 5.3L/4L60e Colorado/Canyon gets around the same highway mileage as my 6.0L/6L80e 1/2 ton and only marginally better around town. The resale will be high on the 5.3L Colorado because they're rare, just like my truck. But not nearly as much utility. I wanted to get one for a commuter by I decided it made more sense just to live closer to work.
