Anyone tune a car with Megasquirt before?

Is it difficult?

I've never done any form of tuning before...

I've been looking into some ideas for a possible project, and megasquirt is something that I'd most likely need...

What and why do you want to do something with megasquirt? What's this project you're thinking of?

And don't you have a 928 to finish?

Its not that hard to figure out to just get it running.I know a handfull of ppl that have never ever even been that deep into car stuff. Then had there car running in a afternoon after hooking it up.

928 is 99% done. My dad and I are tweaking the little things... He wants a summer of driving it before doing anything else...

The project I'm thinking of is... Well, it's still a secret, however Megasquirt is going to be necessary for tuning... :)

Oh come on Joe...there are no secrets here. 'fess up.

Or at least answer are you doing a carb to FI conversion? American car or foreign?

Foreign. And it's a car that has fuel injection, but no real way to tune it correctly...

What kind of foreign? Does it come from Europe, Japan, or China?

SO you want to replace the factory mechanical injection with an electronic setup? What was the factory setup, Bosch CIS? Porsche guys use megasquirt a lot when building up old 911's that came factory with CIS.

It's European, you won't catch me dead with anything from Japan nor China... lol It's not Bosch CIS, it's a relatively proprietary system and because of that Megasquirt has been used with a few models of this manufacturers system...

Isn't Megasquirt commonly used among the Ford Probe/Mazda MX6 crowd?

Jon, when you guys were working on the Escort wagon, didn't you guys use MS or were going to use it. I know Turboprobe (doesn't post here anymore), used to talk about doing a MS tune on his Probe when he had it. Never got around to it obviously.

Megasquirt isn't too bad. I still have an old 68HC11 (pre-68HC908) that I flashed when I was in college. I also have a 68HC908 (version 1, IIRC) I assembled in 2001-2002 for my mud truck. Last time I looked at it, it was pretty advanced. I think they're now using 4 layer PCBs.

Last time I played with MegaTune was a while ago and I liked it. It's no hptuners but it's also a lot easier. If you've got time you'll be happy with it.

Its used were people know you can get the same out of a few hundred dollar stand alone system compared to others that your pretty much just paying for the name and the stickers they send you to advertise for them.Im going this route to but they sell plug an play kits for my car.Which damn its about time.

Yeah, no plug and play kit for this car... Just a lot of sorting through wiring and figuring it out... Then hoping it runs in the end... LOL

Oh this will be a fun project, once it's under way... :devil

Alot of thoes guys run MS, they make adapters that will let you plug directly into a EEC 4 harness, otherwise you have to make your own.... but basically it lets you do more then pretty much any other standalone on the market will let you do... it has a lm input for wide band calibrations and all.....

It's a fairly basic ECU but it works. Just make sure it has all of the outputs that you will need. IIRC the first version was pretty limited on outputs and couldn't really run ignition.

I have a couple of them. MS has always worked well for me. If you can read and follow directions, you can tune it.
