Chinese vs Black's on the northside, bad idea?

Anyone else been following the possibility of a Milwaukee China town on the northside at the old Northridge site?

Last I remember, these two groups RARELY get along. I know I know, I'm generalizing, but I just don't see a China town on the northside working out.

Exactly....No one feels even remotely safe down there. I don't want to generalize, or sound racist or whatever, but when I worked on that side of town, even if I just had to stop briefly at a convenience store, the "vibe" was NOT friendly, to say the least.

Anyone here ever been to Chinatown in NY? It is pure awesome. Getting video games months before they are out in the USA, bootleg DVD's of movies that just yesterday were new in theaters for $3, and great food. Also, get clothing super cheep. Perfume, leather products, electronics for pennies on the dollar.

And to be honest, I would rather give my money to a hard working illegal with a small stand at Northridge trying to support there family then at Wal-Mart where they openly fuck people over.

I don't think the Mall Of China is going to be like what you find in NYC or SF. It will be China's own legit companies and stores...no bootleg DVDs or games. Or like the stalls at 7 mile, either.

The area isn't nice but it's not some hardcore ghetto either. The idea will probably never even make it to fruition, there have been plans for the Northridge mall in the past decade that typically never make it either. I don't think there is that much of a Chinese population here to support it among other things.

To me, the folly is trying to get people or businesses move somewhere, or make a neighborhood something that it isn't.

China towns, polish neighborhoods, black and hispanic sections don't arise because city planners put them there, but because that's where the people of ethnicity tended to move/open businesses because of economics and/or personal preferences.

the area with the highest pop for Asians is the northside, i think this would prob be a good place. Its also better than just an old abandoned mall as well

I have been there a few times. The food markets there are something else: live turtles (f00d?), smoked ducks, and everyone wants to sell you something for "few dollar."

I am 5'6" and going to Chinatown in NYC makes me feel tall!
