Lew, interested in selling that Hutch?

I picked up an American made Trick Star frame and fork for $25 from a guy at work, he had no idea what it was. I took about a year restoring it and ended up with this

I used to have a Redline and an old GT Mach One, my buddy had Haro's, a Skyway and a PK Ripper. This was back around 89-91.

I had a skyway. It was baby blue with white wheel covers on it. LOL

I wish I still had that bike actually

Yeah, his was bright green with white mags. I wish I still had my Redline, had all the cool parts on it, hubs, 3 piece crank, everything that was considered "top shelf" back then. A buddy needed money so I bought it for $150. Had it appraised for my parent's insurance and it appraised at $850 for replacement cost. Would probably all be junk by today's standards.

Sorry, trick star is gone. I am done collecting bmx stuff. Got sick of listening to certain "RAD RICH" characters verbally bash my friends because he couldn't get his way. The guy is about as 2 faced and psyhco as they come. So be carefull when dealing with "RAD RICH" on craigslist.

On a side note I do have some nos stuff sitting in the garage. Mainly some wheels covers, and seats.

Rad Rich is one funny character, has some really cool bikes but not all there upstairs. I thought he was a nice guy the few times I've run into him.

LEWETHETIGER73
12-31-2009, 08:35 AM
I alway liked the Hutch racer bikes better then the trick stars, Those look sweeeet!

For the most part he {Rich} was alright. I went riding with him and his kid a few times. I first met him when I lived down the block from him because he also had a 73 LeMans/ GTO like me. But supposedly he had this dream where he sold his GTO { his first car} to fund his bmx museum because he thought he could make some serious cash with ticket sale. Well he lost his car, broke the bank to the tune of over $15,000 and as far as I am concerened he is still some where in the deep end.

wrong-a-mundo! I'd pay to see it. I pay to go to Rockford and check out the INCREDIBLE display of old school rides.
My kid is into bikes, so I've been exposed to the new stuff out there. Some are pretty cool, but I'll steal a quote from Pork, most of them are "cookie cutter". Back in the day bikes had style, and personality. You could remove the decals and still identify the different models. Trick Star, Haro Master, Torker, GT Performer, Diamond Back.
It's a shame those bikes are so ridiculously priced now, but I get it. I sold that Hutch pictured above for over $1000 2 years ago, now they're going for almost $2000.
It's cool to see guys are still into old school bikes.

Exactly, it was a big thing to do for awhile when I was racing to clean the bikes of the stickers. The clean chrome look was the in thing, and everyone knew by the framestyle what you had anyway.

Nathan and I have cleaned and polished it up pretty good so far. Many hours with the buffer wheel and jeweler's rouge. A white vinegar soak for a couple hours removed a lot of the rust.

Another thread back from the dead...

Scooped this up from a coworker. So far I have repacked the wheel bearings and replaced a bent axle, cleaned the mags up, using a brass brush and chrome polish to clean some of the rust up, put new grips on and some cheap brakes, and pulled pulled the stickers. Gyro, pegs, and sticker kit are in the mail. Gotta touch up the "GT'' emblems on the wheels and keep polishing on it, but it should be a nice looking rider when I'm done. More labor than money into this. Picking this up kinda gave me a new obsession, so i'm kinda looking for a nice GT Mach 1 to do a full build on.

As purchased...

I have a mid-late 90's GT (don;t know model) that I rode when I was younger. It has a BARELY ridden set of Sun spoke wheels and tires (They are older tires, but barely ridden on, has been hangin in the garage, also comes with a set of the original mag wheels (one is cracked). The issue with it is the rear hub is apart...and I have no idea how to put it together.

If anyone still is into those, make me an offer so it doesn't hang in my garage anymore, its been there at least 12-13 or more years.

-stew-
06-21-2012, 10:04 PM
Thanks for the sweet deal, Jay! Looked at the rear wheel for half a second, looks like you took the freewheel apart not the hub. I'm gonna tear into it tomorrow and make a shopping list, shouldn't take much to get it riding again. Found out the paint scheme is called "Black Rainbow," and I'm pretty sure it's a '98. Here's the Dyno i was telling you about. Pictures don't do the paint justice, it's got a two tone pattern to it. The tires are Odyssey bare feet, the tread pattern is bare feet. Pretty school old school tires until my fat ass blew out the sidewall on the rear! Thanks again and nice to meet you!
