Anyone getting those fake Windows Security Pop-ups?

I've been getting them and I liked to get rid of them but don't know how.

Any ideas?
I'm using XP

100% virus.

My wife had that and I had to reinstall windows. It damaged a shit ton of system files. Antivirus did nothing.

Have you tried Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware free software? Scan, remove, don't clear the removed files, then run AVG anti-virus.

I get those all the time (:shades) but haven't had any system issues as of yet. I was told to close out the window opposed to hitting 'OK' or whatever is in the 'enter' box and they won’t harm anything. I’d like to know if that’s true or not.....

From what I have read its some kind of new russian virus, somehow I got it without even clicking the "ok" button and had to manually go through my system and delete most of the files so that I could get a malware scanner and delete that shit. :punch:

Is it that "Antivirus Live Scanner" that's been going around? I just removed it from a friends computer the other day. Here's a great write-up: http://www.2-spyware.com/remove-antivirus-live.html

When I got to step 4 the virus wouldn't let me execute the new file. I had to reboot in safe mode (hold F8 on boot) and then type "run" into the windows search bar on the start menu, then type "regedit". I then just browsed the registry and deleted the content they had listed at the bottom of that webpage I linked.

^^^a guy my dad works with had the same thing talk to him. It popped up a million times so he finally put in his CC# and did it (something he never does) well bc of it he had to cancel all his CC's and close his bank account.

so be careful

Haha

Some people are retarded. The guy your dad works with is a perfect example.

I can fix that that for a small fee.
As well as any other supposed unusable laptops/pc's :)
Shoot me a PM if interested.

I had a similar virus like this lately, I got it from someone sending me a link on Windows Live Messenger (well, the virus from her cpu sent it to me). It opened a window that never, ever went away. Spybot actually did not get rid of it but the IT guys at work told me about Malwarebytes and that fixed it. Malwarebytes FTW!!!

Had the same thing. Funny thing is it said, "it's trying to send your C.C. information to a remote host" and then it asked for the C.C. number to get the "spyware software". Anyone that received both of those and still input their number, own damn fault.

Booted in safe mode, did the Malwarebytes except I did delete the files like an idiot and now I have a couple issues on shutdown where explorer needs to be "end now" and then the computer will not shut off unless manually done. But it did get rid of everything and laptop is back to working.
