There will be a meeting on Tuesday, December 15th, 2009 at 6:00PM, held at the Town Hall for the Town of Paris located at 16607 Burlington Rd, Union Grove, WI. This meeting will be in regards to a study of noise and light pollution alleged to eminate from Great Lakes Dragaway. If you can possibly make it to this meeting, we would GREATLY appreciate it! We need as many fans of GLD as possible. We are sorry for the short notice, as the town scheduled this meeting with very little advance notice. Tell EVERYONE you know who is either a racer or a fan of the sport! This is VERY important and we need your support!!
Thanks!

Wish I could make it as I live not too far from there, but with my work schedule I'd be lucky to get there by 9:00pm. Good luck to you guys. If those fucking townies didn't want to live by a racetrack, they shouldn't have moved near to one... :loser

BTW, light pollution? :rolf If you don't like light, then you'd better pack and move your shit to the dark side of the Moon. Otherwise we've got this big hot thing called the Sun we live approximately 93,000,000 miles from. Word has it it emits a shit load of photons... :durr If the sphere you happen to live on spins about it's axis, then you end up with light pollution for at least part of your day. Luna doesn't rotate, hence it has a dark side. Someone may want to bring that up at this meeting... ;)

Noise and light pollution?

What about me? I live near Miller Park, that place is noisy too, and makes way more light pollution! Should Milwaukee tear it down? And I-94 running through there is noisy 24-7 and there are street lights up and down it. And the trains in the valley make noise at all random times of the day and night, close that off? And ambulances, fire trucks, and squad cars, wow! they make noise and have flashing lights on them.

I always though GLD was in a great location. Who's complaining about the noise and lights? Raccoons in the corn fields? And doesn't racing generally shut down by about 10pm? It's not like there are people racing out there at 2 in the morning.

I can't make it tonight, but I'm there in spirit. Fill us in on the details later after the meeting.

I hope it was packed full of racers....Not the dickbags that want the place shut down.

There are only 2 other 1/4 mile tracks left in the state, and WIR and Rock falls both suck in comparison. GLD has been a part of my livelyhood for the last decade.

Was def a full crowd of supporters. Absolutely no room left inside and no room left for parking outside. They even brought a sherrif deputy in to keep everybody in line but everybody was courteous.

I videoed the entire presentation, but that will have to wait to upload. Basically, some douche complained so they brought in a firm that setup sound wave monitors at the track, on pole and a few other choice places. Of course, they picked LABOR DAY WEEKEND as one of the weekends to monitor. They also picked days that prevailing winds were flowing from the track to the monitors, for the most part.

Of course, levels were high, but it is a flipping dragstrip, that shit happens.

Will get the vid up yet tonight. They didn't allow me to put an audio recorder on the meeting table to audio record anything, they will be pleased that I ran video....

Study finds Paris drag strip’s noise level isn’t very loud
http://www.kenoshanews.com/news/study_finds_paris_drag_strips_noise_level_isnt_ver y_loud_6963587.html

"The board voted to have the town’s attorney work with Bonestroo to create draft ordinances to govern sound and light pollution, with the draft ordinance presented at the January meeting."

As someone on ls1gto boards said, "And so it begins". The title of the article seems to contradict the need to govern sound and light pollution.

soooooo what now? I can't believe they didn't just throw this D-bag out on the street. GLD is a historical place for SE WI. Granted there are more and more car-haters in this state which will ultimately be one of the reasons why my wife and I would move but still. WI is doing a great job REALLY trying to eliminate any bit of motorsports and automotive enthusiasm. Pretty sure The Mile will be done here too. Gotta pick on the next one in line. If I was WIR I would start getting my notes ready for the hearing cuz they will be next. Or Slinger! That track is in the middle of a neighborhood!

Now that they see that they don't have the community support to close the track that they thought they'd have the next step will be to make laws/ordinances to make the track not profitable to keep open. I wouldn't be suprised if in the next 5 years the town of paris has some ordinance that says "no loud noises after 9PM" or some BS like that.

Rock falls does not have any lighting, they run on the weekends only. And at that, they only run every other weekend some times. Thats where made 90% of the passes in my lifetime. They are crooks up there for charging so much but it's the only place to go up there. I don't think it would kill anyone to shut it down a bit earlier, say 9 or so.

The problem with that is you give a little now to keep them happy, and years later they want more and more until you are gone. It might be best to hold their ground for now.

Its not in Union Grove its not even in the same county as Union Grove.
GLD is in the Village of Paris which is in Kenosha county, Union Grove is in Racine county. GLD is on the Kenosha side of Hwy KR the Kenosha/Racine county line.
As for the blink the village of 1400 has a few things but not in one area. There is the 150 year old church/school, a meat packing plant, a weinergies oil burning power station and a landfill.
97% of the Paris population are non snivelers and good people not against GLD.

Because the village of Paris does not have a post office and the closest post office is in da' Grove. Incidentally the actually Paris village hall has a Grove address also.

Grandma lives in Raymond and has a Franksville mailing address and Dad lives in Yorkville and has a Grove address. Just how dey do it.
