As for the Hakkapellitta's, I LOVE them! AWD Turbo w/ Ice Racing Tires FTW!

Yeah but nowhere near the performance of them. :) A die hard snow tire guy I know tried these and got rid of them the next day. They allow the car to push way too much compared to the "hocks". You can totally feel it when he throws the car into a snowy turn at 50-60 :devil Not that they're bad tires either. I guess for the rest of us normal drivers, they'd do just fine.

I've been debating all fall if I should upgrade the mustang to some hocks or gislaveds and resell my blizzaks I bought used last year for like a hundy.

Gislaveds are hard to find around this area. I believe that Michelin also purchased them, so the designs may have turned to suck by now. I think that there is still an old-school Saab used dealer off of Wisconsin ave by Kimberly Clark on the East side of Appleton, WI that sells them and Hakkas. He was an old ice racer. Those two make THE BEST lineup of bad weather tires (well, for ice racing/snow rally) on the market.

If you find Gislaveds down here, shoot me the info!

There's a guy in MF/germantown area that my buddy and boss go to for hocks and I thought he also has some gislaveds. If they get in here today I can ask them.

More than fine. Yes the Nokian/Gilslaved is superior but for the price of these you can't go wrong, unless you're 'racing' in the streets during snow storms.....

If you find Gislaveds down here, shoot me the info!

The closest Gislaved/Nokian tire dealer I know of is in Richfield, Greg / 262-628-1716.....

For me, yeah they'd be great i'm sure. For this guy I know, snow days are essentially race days for him. TBH he makes me damn near shit my pants when there's traffic nearby.

At nearly half the price I wouldn't hesitate, not for a second. They'll be light years better than all-seasons (3-seasons in my opinion) and they're on par if not better than Blizzaks, Alpins, etc.....

I forgot to mention the General Altimax Artic's tread design is identical to the Gislaved Nordfrost 3s, General bought the molds.....:)

Damn, I knew one of the cheaper tire manufacturers purchased the Gilslaved brand molds....

Holy hell, only $79.00 per tire for the General's at Tirerack for a 215/55/R16! That is CHEAP!

The Gislaved Nordfrost3 usually is around $110-135 for the same size, and the Nokian Hakkapellitta RSI is normally even higher.

I did find that "tirefactorydirect" on Ebay has killer deals on Hocks in alot of different sizes.

They don't, most of the less expensive snow tires will be great in the snow. Unless, once again, you're racing at Road America in a snow storm......:goof

I would strongly recommend the Winterforce for your Mustang, and with studs they'd be that much better :shades . They have a heavier construction/higher speed rating than most snow tires and fit a RWD vehicle perfectly.....

Animal, those winterforces are GREAT in the kind of stuff we get here...last night I was blowing by everyone in the insight (SUV's, semi's, pick-ups...all of em), again, in a freekin' honda insight on the way to get the wife out of a ditch last night. With the deep groves, the slushy/salt/crap we normally have on the roads just gets channeled away.

What I really appreciate about these tires is normally the lane changes can be a little intimidating...but the winterforces just seem to glide through without much fanfare. Keep in mind, this is my third season on these tires too.

Oh, and the compound is stout...use them in the summer and they'll wear away in nothing flat, they're so soft.

animal
12-09-2009, 11:14 AM
yeah they looked like a reasonable deal. I might call hocky greg and see what the difference would be for some hockys or something through him too. They're not dire right now, my blizzaks should be fine another year. Not at the snow wear bars or anything but I always like thinking about new tires. Just makes me happy. I know how it'd go tho... i'll buy new snows, and we'll get no more snow til like feb. Heh.

Yea after last night I decided to just get winter tires. I have the falken 512s on my elantra which are kinda crappy all-seasons that just plain SUCK in the snow. Light car, open-diff FWD, crappy all-season tires was not a fun time. Especially considering I tend to drive a little too aggressively in the snow.

Everything I have read about the Altimax arctics has been great, so I ordered them up along with a set of winter rims. Once I get them in and on, I'll update the thread with my opinion.

i got the Firestone winterforce with 17" wheels from tirerack. I just went cheap, but it will be much better than the tires and 18s that are on there. IMO any rear wheel drive car NEEDS snow tires in winter especially on luxury/newer cars where traction control and all the gadgets can work the way their supposed to.

I went with 195/70/14 Winterforces for my civic, basically a bigger sidewall and they fit great. I got to test their limits yesterday, went through a drift that was about 16" in a parking lot, got stuck. Went back and forth a few times and got moving again, plowin snow lol. I freaking love these tires! I just wish there was a good way to add more weight on the front end
