5-10 DAY FORECAST:

As we head into Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, the models have once again flipped. This time back to the idea of a strong storm to impact the Midwest. If it were not for the fact that the models have flipped back and forth all week, I would be pretty confident in this system panning out as indicated, but because of those flips, I am still a little hesitant to pull the trigger and say it is a done deal.

I do think that there is a good chance for an area of low pressure to track through the Midwest the middle of next week, I just think it is the track and strength that is up for grabs.

With that said, what is currently indicated is for a low to develop in the 4 corners region of the SW US on Monday and then track out into the panhandle region of OK and TX Monday morning and then really get itself organized as it makes the turn northeast and heads into the Midwest. A band of heavy snows would fall to the NW of the low’s track and currently that band looks to shape up for much of IA, southeast MN, much of WI, NW IL, much of the UP and the northern 2/3rds of lower MI. By heavy snow I am talking about at least 6-8" on the low end with high end totals in the 14-15"+ range.

The central pressure of the low is indicated to reach 969mb and be sitting just to the east of the Soo by Wednesday night. If that verifies, winds in the eastern ½ of the UP and northern lower MI could gust to 80-90mph+, with gusts to 40-50 mph as far away as the Keweenaw, Green Bay and Detroit.

Obviously some time yet for things to change, but certainly something to keep an eye on.

Regardless of how strong the low gets and where it tracks, it looks like there could be a period of moderate LES in the UP and NWL following the low Wednesday and Thursday.

LES may also continue across portions of the UP and NWL snow belts into the end of next week and weekend and a follow up system may bring a bit of light snow to the rest of the Midwest by Fri-Sat.

I hope they are wrong. I hate every single thing about snow. This time of year is horrible enough. Dark when you go to work, dark when you come home. Then to deal with shoveling/snow blowing, jackleg drivers, car's covered in salt, freezing my ass off, etc...

Every year I despise it even more.

Just remember, just because you can pull thru the snow faster, doesnt mean you can stop faster, just FYI. :) I see it all the time in the snow, someone is hauling ass, then has to stop. Then i end up pulling them out of the ditch. I put mine in 4hi today to make sure its still working.

Students keep thinking they are going to get a snow day this week. I don't get paid for snow days, so a two-hour delay is my preference if we get anything major.

you could always move south?? I'm pretty sure you're at the age where if you wanted to move you could. So with that said, don't bitch when it snows, you live in WI you should expect it. esp. with the fact that i bet you grew up here

Karps TA
12-07-2009, 07:18 PM
I'd love to move south. But my folks are the only family I have, so I'd just as soon wait till something happens to them before leaving, instead of dealing with the hassle of trying to take care of them from a 1000 miles away.

Just cause you live here, doesn't mean you have to like it. People bitch everyday about the taxes in WI, I can bitch about the snow. There's atleast a chance of not getting snow.

fuck moving south. I would move West in a heartbeat. Home prices in southern california are at an all time low. Now granted the state is broke but then again so am I so we'd have that in common.
