:ripped:I finally got my 4th gen camaro toghther this weekend it runs awesome but i do have a problem with my headders the first problem is the passanger side one is resting on the floor board. and my driver side one is hitting my steering shaft the band is pacesste long tube headders. has anyone else had this problem and what is the fix i think the headders are made wrong.

What brand headers are they? You have lt1 or ls1? The only problem i ran into with my hooker longtubes was the driverside was rattling on the crossmember on the trans. had to have the pipe crushed slightly.

Regarding the pass. side, you may have to remove the heatshield where the cat was. The drivers side you might have to loosed the jointed steering shaft and slide it up or down for clearance.

I had a slight clearance issue on the pass side of my Camaro, but the drivers side fit just fine.

Yeah.... good luck with the y pipe too, you will need a come along strap to pull the headers together to get y pipe to fit as well im sure... And they will also rott out in a years time. Not a big fan of the pacesetters on F-cars.

yes i have remove the cat sheild on it it gave me a little cleance but when you hit bumper sometimes you can hear the pass side hit floor. and yes i also loosened the steering shaft so i could adjust it but it still is rubbing on the headder. this is a lt1 and the brand headders are pacesetter long tube headders. but the wired thing is the y pipe went on with no problems just sliped on?

The y pipe is where i had rubbing issues on the drivers side. You had to have taken apart the motor mount to slide the headers in on the passenger side. Are you sure the bolt went back through the correct way, not sure if thats possible but you never no. i have heard the pacestter headers have some fitment issues.

Still dont understand where your coming from beagle on a stroker motor. How is it wasting money? I would love to be proven wrong still that a 355 is adequate to a 383. Your saying the larger stroke is making no extra power? A 383 will tend to make more power down low, and have a wider powerband and will make more torque.

Beagle
11-29-2009, 07:22 PM
No just the power gain for the price isnt worth it. You get like 40hp if that for 2-3k more? Nitous is cheaper. you want more power put a lsx or a big block in it.

a WELL BUILT 355 will outperform a mediocre 383 all day long. Its the "whole package" that makes a car fast.

Well no kidding a built small block will out perform a half ass big block to, my 355 in my mustang has already beat my friends sbc 406 powered nova and my firends bbc 454 camaro bigger cubes arnt always the ticket. But to say a 383 is a worthless motor is crap to me. Your going from a 3.48 sroke up to a 3.75 , making more torgue and wider power band ill waste my money on that anyday and if you do it cheap with a stock 400 crank turned down to fit the main bearings or a cheap eagle crank, i beam rods, maby kb forged pistons your in a short block maby 1000$ just my 2 cents

Back to the OP. I had PS LT's on my camaro for 2-3 years and they held up just fine. No fitment issues. I would check your motor mounts and see if they still look good.

i put pacesetter lt's on my camaro this summer. The y pipe would bump the frame when i was hard on the acceleration. Then i threw in my stall and poly trans mount and it hasnt made any noises since.

:rolfThis thread got pretty off topic... Best solution I could offer for the OP is get out the torch and hammer, do a little massaging. Brutish, but if you take your time, you wont butcher it.

In my experience, Pacesetter has been on the lower end of the quality spectrum, as far as headers go. Personally I'd say if you were going to invest in a set, get something like Kooks. Serious price, but the fit & finish is bar none, plus they're stainless.

Sure they are nice, also 3 times the price. I was 100% happy with mine i had 2-3 years ago. As far as i can tell they have come a long way since the crappy honda headers they made in the 90's. I think i got the headers and y- pipe for about 450 total.

That's what I paid for mine 2 years ago. Mine have no issues and are just fine.

A lot of guys who have them on their GTOs are complaining about surface rust already.

Most any kind of coating will not last, my buddy had jet hot coated hooker headers and his were rusting after 1.5-2 years. His car was stored in the winter too.

I just bought the uncoated headers because i really didn't care what they looked like. After 3 years they just had some light surface rust, still could see the paint in most places.
