Dairyland Greyhound Racetrack in Kenosha, Wisconsin will be closing on December 31, 2009. Greyhounds need to be adopted or they will be euthanized. Please help me get the word out; there are only 6 weeks to get this task done. Contact Joanne Kehoe, Operations Director, at (312) 559-0887, or contact the Dairyland Race Track Adoption Center direct at (262) 612-8256. Great, gentle dogs.

The wife and I have a 5 year old male greyhound and he has been a great dog. They are low energy and are good apt. dogs. They breed the dogs well so they have little health problems. Some may not work with cats but most are great with kids.

If you are thinking about getting one of these dogs and have a question, send me a PM and I'll try to help out.

For those thinking about adopting one of these, remember a good portion of them aren't house broken as they for the most part are NOT pets.

On the flip side, greyhounds are great dogs and they ARE worth the effort to train.

I'm not in a position to get one or more right now, but I've had two in the past. So if you are considering doing an adoption, my advice is to not even think about it, just do it! They are sweet and well-tempered couch potatoes once adopted, and they'll become a part of your family in no time.

what is the cost of adopting them or are they just trying to find homes instead of euthanizing them. i wish we had more space, but our house cant hold another addition to the family.

A retired Greyhound was my second choice if finding a Great Dane didn't work out. If I heard about this before getting Lola, I would have one or two Greyhounds running around.

Adam would definitely divorce me if I even brought up the idea. :goof

I'm sure he would be OK with it if he had a Mocha SHO.....:shades

I believe all you pay is $175...which covers their cost for spaying/neutering, shots, etc

my neighbor adopted 2 of them. nice dogs, pretty quiet, but they can haul ass around their backyard.

Just a FYI. I'm a member of the greyhound group here in WI. Another member has a contact who works at the track and it seems that the e-mail going around is false. The adoption center will stay open until all the dogs are gone and, none of the dogs will be put down.

Good news but will still need to find these dogs homes.
