Seems most people seem to think its a drive by wire issue?
Another reason to drive a manual car.

even manual transmission cars that are being made today are drive by wire. This reminds me of the whole ford explorer/firestone exploding tire issue. A lot of accidents/deaths were caused because the person was panicing when the incident happened....Sure in both cases it is a little un-nerving when these things happen, however, you are behind the wheel of a 3000 pound brick. You have to be ready for ANYTHING, and you cannot panic in those types of instances....I have had tires go down on me, and I have even had the gas pedal stick on me. Both times I was calm about it, and was able to bring the vehicle to the side of the road in a safe manor....You cannot blame the auto manufacturer for driver error.

I highly doubt it is a drive-by-wire issue. I'd bet almost anything it is the mechanical petal actually getting stuck all the way down.

Word.:thumbsup

Yea we have some safety projects here at work, and I can tell you first hand that the safety certification that those electronics go through is serious. First off they are pretty ruggedly designed systems that don't fail often, and second if they do fail the system will fail in a "safe" condition.. i.e. In a DBW system it would be no engine power, throttle closed.

wrong! it wasnt just a tire going down. this happened to a family member of mine and the tires were wrapping around the rear axles and in some cases causing an instant lock up of one of the rear tires at highway speeds. My family member wrecked a new eddie bauer explorer because it locked up went sideways then rolled. there was nothing that could be done about it. And the reason those happened was because Ford was madating a tire that wasnt load rated for suvs not to mention on the doors the air pressure rating was incorrect. a NEW tire separating as is UNWRAPPING is NOT the owners fault!
