View Full Version : Puppy Play Date

Seems that many members here have recently picked up/adopted a puppy.

I don't know about you guys, but the "puppy stage" isn't always cute and cuddly and my new girl needs to play and get some energy out.

Anybody up for getting together with the dogs and letting them be social?

I have a psychotic cat that you can borrow.

Michelle, what kinda pup did you get again? I have a big yard, bring him/her over if it can take a beating. My dog doesn't know how to be gentle.

My dog seems to just want to jump on other dogs. I really haven't had her around too many though. Maybe she needs to get the shit kicked out of her by some other dogs tho lol

Mine does the same thing, but only to smaller dogs. He runs away from big dogs :rolf We take him to the dog park once a week and he seems to be doing better.

We have a 5 month old Great Dane now. She's probably over 70 pounds right now and she doesn't always know the word "gentle". I am sure she means well, but she seems to be in her goofy "teenage" years and isn't really aware of where her whole body is at times. The goof bangs her head into everything, including me. I have bruises all over to prove it, plus nice carpet burn from when I got tripped down the stairs at 3 a.m. :rolf

Do you have a fenced in yard? I have a smaller fenced in area, but not quite trusting her off leash around the whole yard at this time.

Are you free this weekend? Or anybody free starting tomorrow through Sunday?

Nope, I haven't taken her to a vet yet. I got all her vet papers when I picked her up and she was at a vet less than a month ago. I want to be more familiar with her so when I take her to her first vet visit, I can bring up any concerns or questions.

I took her to Petco with me today. She was awesome in the store and stayed close, didn't pull to go towards people or children, and picked out a toy she wanted all by herself. Completely different dog then when she is in the house. :goof

I've probably been to both parks with Howie (our beagle) before. I have to get Lola into some obedience class, but I have to find a location since the one I wanted to go to isn't having another class until January. I've been working with her each day on coming when called and other basics, etc. I've never trained a dog before, so it will take me some time before I am confident.

I'm thinking about stopping at a park in Grafton tomorrow that's fenced in (or so it says on this site: http://www.dogparkusa.com/wisconsin/muttland-meadows-dog-park-lime-kiln-park-grafton)

And this one just opened up it looks like:

Ours is too small to play with those big dogs although ours would stand and tussle with the bigger dogs, too easy for her to get hurt. She weighs a mere 25lbs.lol

Muttland Meadows is fenced in...it's a nice place. I think there's one in Brookfield over by the Toyota Dealer that's on capital that's fenced in too.

There is one over by me ~124th and good hope that's not completely fenced in, but of little to no risk of loosing your dog due to size and woods/creek. It's probably the most laid back of the parks.

I've got a fenced in yard if you guys want to have it here...plus three dogs to join the fun.

Its good for the dogs to be socialized early on, mine needs more time with others. She does well wresteling with large breed dogs, never heard any yelping or hard biting.

I'd like to get her out with others, hopefully someone can wear her out.

Chris where is the one off of good hope? is it an actual park?

Yeah...just take bradley to 145...continue toward 145 south. There is a little road that turns off it before you're actually on the highway part of 145 (it's the second right coming from this direction). There are I think two houses on this road, but ~ 200 yds past the houses, you'll drive into a parking lot. Fairly large park with hills, stream, some decent open areas. It's a good time...

Another way is to simply take bradley, take a right on Park Place and take your first Right. Go straight across 145 once you pass the stop sign, and that's the road that'll take you to the park.

google map of the location:
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&ie=UTF8&q=124th+Good+Hope+Milwaukee&fb=1&gl=us&hq=124th+Good+Hope&hnear=Milwaukee&view=map&cid=9613852996871950439&ll=43.150597,-88.058242&spn=0.005581,0.007929&t=h&z=17

let me know if you go one of these days...

The Granville Dog Park is a great place to take your dog off a leash to let it run. It is fenced off from the road and there is plenty of room to run. Great place if you want your dog to interact with other dogs.

Is there any trick or treating on Sunday? Would anybody be available on Sunday? Or not because of the game?

I might be okay for some part of sunday. What time was everyone thinking?

I got a 6 month GSD, but he is a big baby. He is pretty timid with aggressive dogs as he doesn't really understand how big/strong he actually is.

My guy isn't fixed... not until another few months or so. Although he doesn't have any real desire yet that I have seen either.

Is your pup in heat? If she isn't I honestly wouldn't worry much, esspecially because we will be watching over them.
