I can't believe it still has the Diesel motor in it. My grandparents had an 88 Royal Diesel that didn't last long before being swapped to a carb motor. GM had the brilliant idea to take a 350 V-8 and make some minor tweaks to make it run on diesel while sharing as much as possible with the gasoline motor to cut costs. One of the worst GM motors ever produced.

When I was a kid, my dad had a 83 Delta 88 wagon that came with the 350 Deisel. only had that motor in it for less than 2 years. his buddy put a 427 in it.

My dad was a real glutton for punishment. He was so in love with the idea of a diesel engine in a car, that we owned, not one, but two cars motivated by that lack-o-power plant. A 1978 Delta 88 bought new, and a 1980 Buick Park Avenue, bought new.

BIGGEST HUNK OF FUCK EVER!

Noisy, slow, smoky, SLOW, smelly, SLOW filthy, and (did I mention?) REALLY FUCKING SLOW.

You'd step it down to pass someone:rolf, and it would make a ton more racket and smoke up the road, but it still took about 30 seconds to go from 50 to 75. The irony of it all is that block had very thick main webbing and you could convert it over to gasoline relatively easily. Lots of Olds race engines started out using that block. :durr

if i remember correctly, those came with aluminum hoods on the diesels only. i have also heard about people using those blocks for their gas engine setups because the bottom end of those things are strong.

Thats a Oldsmobile diesel, there are guys making 2K HP on thoes blocks.... but thoes motors are still very high in demand since they were so stout.......

Wow, that thing is clean. Since, I was bored I ran the autocheck on it. It's spotless, and as of 8/2009 mileage was 69,501. I bet it would be a good starting point if someone wanted a clean olds block to build.
