My wife and I are going on a vacation to AZ next month and I'm having a difficult time gauging an area we should stay. Here's what we're looking for...

A more upscale area. Obviously we don't want to stay in any questionable areas.

Nice hotels with plenty to do around the area. Hiking, etc. I know there the Grand Canyon but I'm not sure if we're gonna try and go there or not.

We'd rather not be right in a downtown area, but we don't want to be an hour away from everything either.

If anyone has any suggestions on areas, or nice spa like hotels, that would be great.

Flagstaff is very nice. It's cool there in the winter as it is elevated. Skiing, hiking

Sorry one other thing that is vital is that we want to go somewhere warm. So Flagstaff is probably not what we're looking for.

Yeah Adam let me know.

Ahh Arizona, possibly (hopefully) my next place of residence......

There isn't a damn thing to do in Tucson, unless you like humping cactus plants. My cousin lived there for four years while attending U of A and I was bored out of my gourd when we visited on more than one occasion.....

Scottsdale is a very nice area. Very upscale. Stay away from Tempe, there are a lot of bad neighborhoods there, even if you are close to ASU. Chandler is a really nice small city, close to phoenix, but far enough out. Has several hiking trails. If you visit Arizona, you should defintely go to the grand canyon. Thats like going to Florida and not going to Disney. There are tours that will pick you up from your hotel, spend a day at the canyon, and have you back at your hotel that same night. It was under 100 bucks when I did it and it was worth every penny. The tours will take you to several cool locations on the way there and back including Sedona, the painted desert, and the little colorado canyon. Go to the Grand Canyon you won't be dissapointed.

Sedona is great for romantic getaways. Plenty of good couples stuff to do and beautiful weather and scenery.

anpther -1 for Tempe....don't do it. There were some great golf courses there when I was there but the ratio of sketchy areas to nice areas near Tempe was 8:1. Cool lowriders though :rolf
