Get a Escort Passport. You could get the older 8500 x50 Like i have. Johnny2k also has one and i know it has helped me out a TON. they also came out withen the last year the escort 9500 which dectects redlight cameras and speed cameras. so that could come in really handy.

or there is always the Valentine1 there is a very large following of people who swear by those.

Valentine is the best, cant really detect a laser though once youre hit by a laser and the detector goes off its too late doesnt matter what detector you have, luckily most departments use radar.

Valentine, you will pay out your ass for one but they will even pay for your ticket if you get one. Google it and check out their website.

i've had my Cobra cheaper unit for years now, everytime i've been hit, it's been laser, which like said above, it's too late. it's always detected everything else and kept me safe otherwise.

Quit using them long ago, a complete waste of money. They create a false sense of security. Attentive, smart driving and awareness are what saves your ass.

Escort owns but the ONLY guaranteed way to NOT get a ticket is to lay off the pedal on the right.....:durr

I have the Escort Solo2 as well and LOVE it. Picks up radar from a trooper comin the opposite direction almost 2 miles ahead of time.

I got mine for $130 off ebay.

I have to agree with Scott here...

Although when I had a radar detector I had a Passport Escort 7500S... Which then I stopped using and gave to my dad when his Passport Escort 6500 died... He swears by 'em... Personally I can't say I ever had an experience where my radar detector had saved me from getting a ticket...

The only time my radar detector saves me is when I'm on county highways that I don't usually take. Keeping up with the seemingly worthless change in speed limit on back roads is hard, at least the radar detector makes me check more often.

Last time i ran a radar detector it was no match for the laser.

Best bet is to limit you speed to no more than 7 over. Haven't had a ticket since. The Queer will get a couple more mpg as well.

I follow this for sure. I've yet to have gotten a speeding ticket. Going over hills or coming up on large long curves = common sense to slow down. However I still do use a radar detector. As it helps with those asshats that have the forward mounted detector that can shoot you while driving towards you.

I have the escort 9500 with gps. Its great! It never falses, so it's not annoying. Litterally about 75% of the time it goes off, there is a cop. I drive on the freeway a lot late at night and it works great for that. You can't really see the cops hiding on I94 when its dark out.

I have had the V1 pick up laser when the guy in front of my was getting lasered.

I've been lasered a few times with the V1 while speeding, always had enough time to slam on the brakes enough to not get pulled over.

You just can't beat the directional arrows and bogey counter. Tells how many signals it is picking up and from which direction. Helps figure out if a cop is coming up fast behind you or coming from in front of you (or the sides)

It is also built to last. Magnesium (?) case, lightweight, solid knobs.

Upgradable. If there are new revisions, new technology or bands you can simply send in your unit to have it updated.

It uses standard RJ45 phone cable as power. You can tuck the unit close to your headliner and tuck the phone cable down to your kick panel. Easily and cheaply make it as long as you want.

I could go on and on, but realistically you just need to try each unit and see which you like better or pick one or the other.

true 360 protection you will need a K40 or passport 9500ci. K40 has front and rear radar as well as laser diffusers, the passport has front radar and front/rear laser diffusers. i have a K40 on my truck and it works great, tosa was shooting laser on bluemound a few weeks back and all i saw was the cop shhoting his laser at me and kept putting it down to check it and trying again and again but only got an error message on his gun.

I dunno, I haven't heard too many good things about the K40. You might want to be careful about that, if you're jamming all the way in most cops will know what you're up to.

BTW, you don't need rear laser protection. Valentine 1 is where it's at... once you use one you'll see why. Worth EVERY penny. I've had my V1 for... 7+ years now... picked it up in a pawn shop up in St. Cloud, MN for $130 (the shop owner didn't know the difference between it and the Unidens/Cobras/Escorts/Whistlers he had on the shelf next to it). If you want a jammer, look into the Blinder M27. The Blinder is updatable via PC/net.

Escort Passport x50.

A detector won't protect you from stupid. Don't speed where it's not safe and a place you don't know.

85% of cops are stupid and only look for moving vehicles. So just park. Chances are Barney goes flying by.

blinders are basically K40's old technology that the patent ran out on. everytime i have had a car in the shop that has a set of blinders on they show up with a "search for device" via bluetooth as "K40 slave". the use of laser diffusers is not illegal since they aren't governed by the fcc.

Look, I'm not saying Blinder is the end-all be-all, but the last test I saw of the K40 it didn't do too well and I've heard a lot of anecdotal complaints about it not working. To each their own though. The bigger problem is that virtually all of the Jammers out there will produce a JAM code on 50%+ of LIDAR device being used by police departments. Maybe 'tosa uses LTI or Kustom. I dunno, but if you run up against a cop using a Laser Atlanta unit, there isn't a jammer on the market that doesn't trip a jamming code on it. If/when I get a jammer it'll either be a Laser Interceptor or a Blinder.

if you go with a K40 get the hardwired kit because they are much more reliable than the bluetooth units, we have had our fair share or warrenty time fixing them. on the otherhand, the passport units must have had a bad batch of radar units lately because we have seen quite a bit of those problems also. pound for pound it comes down to personal choice between those two units, they both shine in different in different catagories but are similarly good. they both run around $2200 installed. if a dash unit is more of what you are looking for, passport makes a good product. i have installed many V1's for people, mostly OLD because they never seem to break. unless you are installing diffusers, laser detection is about as usefull as instant on radar (your detector might as well just print the ticket for you).

best defense is to not speed, but that is much easier said than done.

You cant go wrong with the v1.........Even the auto magazines in all of their tests say it is the best one out there.....barring that (the 350+ price tag might set some people off) escort and bell make some good ones as well....the escort dosnt have the range of the bell but the bell sends a few more false warnings. Remember, a radar detector is just a warning system.....it dosnt help you if you are not paying attention to it/cant hear it.

Thank you, father, for reminding us all that a device is useless if we are not paying attention to it.

:goof

I had a k40 dash unit and liked that too - I took a turn and it flew out the window. As it turns out, radar detectors are better at detecting than they are at hitting concrete at 50 MPH. Whoda thunk?

Escort and Valentine both make a great detector. I prefer Escort because Valentines are almost too sensitive and are constantly screaming at you. Don't get me wrong though, Valentine's sensitivity is what you want on the open highway. Escort has the new Redline out which is supposed to more sensitive than the Valentine, so if you want raw sensitivity, you have two choices from the big two in this market.

For laser jamming, absolutely nothing beats Laser Interceptors laser jamming kit - http://www.laser-interceptorusa.com/index2.html. They will usually JTG(Jam To Gun). The car can be within a ridiculously small range of the laser gun and the gun will not get a reading.

For more info on this stuff check out Guys of Lidar - http://www.guysoflidar.com and the radar detector forums - http://www.radardetector.net/forums/

I use the Escort 9500ix and it hasn't failed me yet. It certainly has its pros and cons though. The adaptive sensitivity based on speed is really nice though. It changes how sensitive it is based on the speed it detects via GPS. Really neat feature and keeps it relatively quiet in the city.

I have the older Passport 8500 Blue, and it has always and still works great. Almost the same as the 9500 without the gps marking.
