Any of you guys ever play Motor City Online for the PC? If not, it was a great online game where you started with a junkyard car and raced in different events against other real people to make money. Here is more info. about the old game:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motor_City_Online

Anyways, a small group of developers is bringing the game back and making it better then the first. They are a non-profit group so the game will be free once released but that also means the cars can net be named Ford, Chevy, etc. instead they are generic names.

The game's new site is up. Along with most classic muscle cars, I see a Fox body and a GN. Because it's non-profit, the game "will be done when it's done." Check it out.

I fucking loved that game!! I bought my Decal 65 Chop Top stang for a ton of money. Then towards the end you could paint any car like that :( :( I played that game from Beta to the day it died.

I also remeber all the people that left when they brought those two ricers in. A eclipse with a SBC :rolf

Cool!

If the game is realistic, this car will be unbeatable!

This is also cool. Even if the GT badge is in a screwed up location.

The 1970 Torino GT's actually did have the emblem near that location.

If this is half of what the original was, this game will be EPIC in more ways than anyone can imagine. Fuck the original MCO was a decade ahead of its time if not more!! You can swap cams, heads, intakes, carbs, headers, crankshafts, EVERYTHING. And its all ran thru that PC Software dyno thing. I'm not saying its completely acurate but pretty dam close for a video game.

Then they had online auctions and special cars there were rare etc.. As well as rare parts like a 1350 CFM carb for example. All of these things obviously sold for crazy cash and added a real edge to the game. I remember the 32 fords dominating the drag strip on there. I remember fucking with cams and heads for a bit trying to get a sbc to have a low hp but LOADS of torque so I could stay under a certain class with my vette. Then I just geared the shit out of the rear end. It redlined at like 5grand but halled ass.

The one at the top looks just like mine. Red stripe and all, needs the Porno red treatment in the interior though.

I cannot wait, I was soooo addicted to the old game, I'm getting on this asap

edit: They have a 70 challenger, the only thing that would make this game better is if they put a dakota in it

Yeah, i didn't read the fine print either. Had a lot of fun for the first month and then got hit with the 10/month charge so i quit playing it. You think they made a sweet game only to come back around and fuk you, lol. That must have been 6-7 years ago now.

The monthly fee for these on-line games is for server upkeep because the game is open basically 24/7. They said this one would be free and they will try to pay for the server upkeep with advertising.

Thats understandable, but they were not very upfront about the fee.

Yea, I think I got the game as a gift when I was younger, but it had to be returned due to the fee.

What I don't get is how copies still sell on ebay occasionally.

:wtf

I think there are some private-owned MCO servers still out there. Like the Interstate '76 series, no more "company run" servers but there are a few independants.

I would still like to have a copy in the original cellophane as a keepsake if I could ever find one.

Anybody remember the old DOS game called Street Rod? Now that game was ahead of its time. When MCO came it out I was totally excited for a modern day version of Street Rod, but I can never bring myself to pay a subscription fee for a game.
