Looking for a new laptop. Need suggestions for best price and a good quality unit. Dont do any gaming, just need wireless, decent dl speed, and decent storage memory. Any brand, model, place to purchase you recommend?

Best Buy has a really decent laptop for $350 64 bit proc, single core only, but 3 gigs of ram and a decent hard drive.

Acer, Asus and Toshiba seem to be some of the best laptops on the market IMO.

I've never had problems with Dell stuff, and if you check every few days or week or so they run some incredible sales from time to time.

The Lenovo Thinkpads are the most reliable laptops around... if you are serious about a laptop, PM or call me and we can talk about your needs and get you exactly what you want. It doesn't have to be Lenovo either... I can get a number of different brands, HP, Toshiba, ASUS, MSI, Sony, etc... You can also get nebooks for under $300 with 160GB drives, 1GB memory, etc. See my sig for the link to my post in the classifieds.

I had a 17" Toshiba which blew up when the heat sync clogged with cat hair, but thats kinda my own fault for not cleaning it out really ever. My girl has the same comp and it works well.
I currently have a little MSI Wind which I really really like. Lightweight and has about 7hours of on-battery time.

I might be hitting you up in the future. I'm looking for a new desktop, notebook or laptop, and a home server running Windows Home Server.

If your prices are competitive I'd rather buy from a local person vs newegg.

I can do all of those... I have a WHS myself (which I built) and it's friggen awesome. I was running my own World of Warcraft private realm on it for a while. :D It really becomes one of those things that you wonder how you ever got by without it.

I'm sure. My friend has been trying to get me set up with it for a while, just haven't gotten around to it.

What I'm looking to do more specifically is have the home server, a nice desktop, something like like 6-8 gigs of RAM, W7, and a small HDD for Adobe Creative Suite, and then an inexpensive (like $300 or less) notebook/laptop that can float around the house for internet use/email/ etc. and have my 360 synched up to the server like its synched up to my laptop now.

If that all makes sense?

Makes perfect sense. A netbook would be perfect for your "float around the house" computer. Just so you and Memphis know, I can also get some open box computers. I have access to a lot of 10 ASUS EEPC 1000s that are basically open box, tested non-defective customer returns. They will go for between 200 to 250 each (probably closer to 200) which is a steal. I don't know exactly what they will cost because the company makes us dealers bid on them. We don't have to buy the whole lot but shipping gets more cost effective the more you buy.

Here are the specs for them:

1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor
1 GB RAM
160 GB Hard Drive, 10 GB Eee Storage
Microsoft Windows XP Home, 7 hours of battery life
10.1-inch LED-backlit widescreen display

There's a 30-day direct warranty on them, and as far as I know, the manufacturer's warranty still applies.

If either of you guys (or anyone else) wants one, let me know. The bidding on this batch ends Friday at noon, so let me know before then if you want one.

Same here, Im typing from the back yard after a year plus of use without a glitch after many hours of cruising porn.

Picked mine after the wife had hers for over a year, she's got a few years into hers without a problem. She has the thing packed full of her photography pics and it still rolls smoothly online watching streaming movies.

There prices are great when you compare what you spec out, I clicked about every option a year ago and its still a good deal today when comparing to others.

The one nice thing I'll say about Dell is for the most part they are pretty good with their warranty return policy. Of all the manufacturers out there, they are the ones (provided you've bought their warranty) that will basically ship you a new computer if your current one explodes. There aren't too many manufacturers that will do cross-shipping any more.

I'd have to agree with everyone's recommendations in this post.

I second Myles on Acer. I'm on my second one now and my first one is still going strong. I sold my first one to my workplace and it goes all over the place with zero problems. It's about 4 years old now.

Wife has a 17" Toshiba that was like $900 a year and ahalf ago
