All my passengers rave about my suspension and the comfy ride, they can't believe it handles so well and also rides so well. I'm very happy with performance and ride, but I have a convertible.
I have the Firehawk option Bilstein Ultra-performance suspension from SLP. SLP also sells mostly the same kit to non-Firehawk customers. It does lower it, particularly the rear.

A lot of people are very happy with the KYB AGX 8-way adustable shocks and Eibach pro-kit springs...

That setup should run you <$600 and allows for a level of adjustability...

Should also mention that you don't HAVE to do springs. A good shock setup can do wonders for our cars. Also if you get adjustables, you can lower the car some (about 1") that way too, if you were getting the springs for lowering purposes.

the inch enough to get rid of that "4x4" look when i get my new rims? That is one of my main concerns, how much of a difference about will the shocks make handling wize? enough to make springs not even really necessary...the way i look at it, if i put on springs i HAVE to do shocks but if i can just do the shocks and save the greatly needed money with close to the same performance outcome, that would be the way to go.

yeah, an inch is a noticable drop. The shocks will make a huge difference handling wise, and yes, they would make the springs un-necessary. Stock springs with a good shock setup will do wonders.

If at all possible take a look at some of the locals actual setups. Every kit looks different on each car and tastes differ. What may look good to me might be too low for others so your best bet is to look at the lowered cars and determine which ride height is best for you. I know of a certain red SS that looks awesome with the same lowering kit I have but the owner thinks it might too low for him.:cool2:
