Yard work power tools :)

Who would have thought there were soo many options when it comes to yard work. I have a nice mower to cut the grass:

and I'm pretty happy with the cut, but doing the edging is not good along the curb with this machine. Any suggestions on where to buy a trimmer that I can get an edging attachment for? I don't want to spend more then 200 on the trimmer itself, and hoping the attachments aren't crazy expensive for it either. After visiting home depot, I found 2 that look interesting. I think the only difference is the fact one is electric start, which I dont need ( especially for 55 bucks more ).

Opinions?

i have the trimmer in the first link you posted.. my uncle gave it to me as an excuse to go buy a new one.. lol
it works great i messed with it at my parents house.starts nice and easy 4-5 pulls tops. as for the second one i couldn't tell ya.

buy a decent string trimmer and turn it on its side to edge FTW. I have a Homelite that is complete garbage. Hope to get a nicer one in the spring

I have a cub cadet 4 stroke trimmer I bought at home depot. Works great and don't have to f around with mixing the gas/oil

This. You only trim what once a month if that? ALot of new trimmers(my gma had one) have a "stopper" on the top of the timmer. So you push a button and it flips the timmer upside down. Then you just go at it. Hard to explain but when you look at it, it is very simple.

I have a cheap Homelite too. I love the damn thing. It won't start worth the shit by itself, but a quick shot of carb spray and it starts up on the first pull everytime.

I was looking at 4 cycle Troy Builts at Lowes, they have one on clearance for 185. Is the price difference worth it for the quieter operation and the fact you dont have to mix fuel?

Maybe, but I don't think having the mixed gas or the noise is an issue for me at all. But if you have the dough for it, it's obviously that much more convenient and it can't hurt.

I'm just cheap and I'd rather mix the gas and save a couple bucks. :thumbsup

for 185, just got a 10% off coupon for lowes in the mail today as well. I have no problem paying a little more to get the 4 cycle as from what I am reading in the reviews the 4 cycle starts better for longer and is a more efficient machine.

even more than the 4 cycle feature, buying a nicer model will serve you well. I don't mind the 2 cycle units. Just buy a small gas can to keep fuel for them. Not a big deal to me

pOrk... I just bought a 2 cycle gas trimmer (can't remember the brand, I think it might be a homelite) at the Tool Warehouse or something in Johnson Creek... It's a refurb, but good as new... Got it with the leaf blower attachment for $70 total...

I ended up buying a 2 Cycle Troy Built 31cc string trimmer with the commercial spool for 130 something after a 10% off coupon from lowes. It runs like a top and only takes 30 seconds to warm up to a healthy idle :) Joe, 70 bucks is cheap! They have blowers on sale at Sears Outlet for 50 bucks that I was thinking about snatching up, all the reviews for these multi-head tools say not to use the switchable attachements as they add too much wear on the machine for one reason or another.

my pops bought that one its pretty nice nowhere near as nice as the sthil that we have out at my moms house

Yeah, it was 49.90 for the Trimmer, and 19.90 for the blower attachment...

I have a Echo that I never had a problem with. And would recommend any of their products. I think I paid 150 for it at Homedepot.
