I managed to blow a driver out of my Bose over-ear headphones this morning so I am on the lookout for something to replace them. Bose QuietComfort 3's are an obvious pick but is there anything else out there better for the same or less cost?

Looking for over-ear only.

lol, obviously p0rk, you have never worn bose or any other GOOD headphone before :-p . I have nice skullcandy's for snowboard only because they are waterproof. but bose and other good headphone BLOWS skullcandy out of the water :)

Ive used the Sennheiser PXC 350 and 450s before. they are very very nice. cheaper than the bose, but equal in the sound department ( personally ) also tried the Monster Beats, which sounded good as well

Doesen't it depend on what you use them for?

I like bluetooth 2.0 headphones. I sync them up to my pda and can change songs, volume, ect on the headphones with my pda 30 feet away. No wires to tangle. Pretty cool at my work, since I'm moving around a lot. Ofcourse it's bluetooth, so not the best quality, but for mp3's, its good.

I like the idea of that since I love getting within 5 feet of my truck and my iphone is already synced up to the receiver, but is there a Bose/Skullcandy quality headphone that has that?

Use them mainly here in the office so I need something that will not leak sound when on.

Are you looking at corded or cordless headphones ???

I think I still have a set of Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro's I could part with

No highs? No Lows? IT MUST BE BOSE!

Perhaps it's the time I spent in the high end audio industry - but I cannot stand the sound of bose audio stuff -

(I'm not the only one http://www.philintheblank.com/philled/Bose.html)

Denon is a good choice - but I don't have too much experience with headphones other than my Sures and Denon pairs.

Koss FTW!!! Plus they are located in Milwaukee, and I believe their products are made in the U.S.A.

Bose is for people that shop based on advertising not research. Kinda like Banks products for diesels.

The ones I had I got for free, the wife got them as part of some promotion FedEx had :) So I wasn't complaining.

The beat headphones for the money:
Sennheiser HD555 or HD595
http://www.sennheiserusa.com/private_headphones_audiophile-headphones_005342

I have the Audio Technica ATH-AD900 which are pricey.

My Shure monitors are the best monitors I've owned - but I wouldn't consider them to be an audiophiles dream.

And - I'd take my shure buds over a bose set any day of the week.

Although - the bose soundwave sounds pretty good for what it is, but not when you put it next to an Ihome for 1/4 the price (or whatever it is).

i've been rockin a pair of sennheiser hd 457 for many years now and have never had any problems with them. they sound great for a pair of reasonably priced headphones. i also like the shure ear buds for when i am on the go.
