Monday, I had to take the little girl out to Waukesha for a doctor's appointment. On the way back, I was on the freeway and got to about Moorland when I looked in my rearview mirror and noticed a cop behind me with his lights on. I wasn't speeding and I had my seatbelt on and I had actually been in that lane for awhile, so I had no idea why I could've been being pulled over.

The cop came up to my car and I handed over my license and he proceeded to tell me that he pulled me over because of the crack across my windshield. Now, my windshield cracked last April ('08) from a rock the hit it when I was on the freeway. Over the winter, it cracked more, but I've passed numerous amounts of cops, driven in front of cops, behind cops, never once was I pulled over for this until now.

I do think that maybe this is something you can get pulled over for, but it gets overlooked because it's not a big ticket amount. The guy that pulled me over had to be new because he actually asked me for my registration, and I've never been asked for that before. Also, right after he was done with me, he immediately went and pulled someone else over.

But really, you can really get pulled over for this?

Yes you can get pulled over for it. It is considered an obstructed view. I have been pulled over for an air freshener on the rear view mirror.

I remember I got pulled over for having my tassel from high school in my rearview mirror.

Yes. You can be stopped for any "safety violation". Specifically any windshield with a crack that is directly in the drivers view.

Also, because it's a state law, your comprehensive insurance must cover it without impact on your premiums.

I've heard someone get pulled over for this too.

The registration thing is weird. I had a cop ask me for my SS# once. I said "I've been pulled over numerous times and have never been asked for it before." His reply was He's been doing this for 20 years, and puffin his chest out because I questioned him. I told him I would assume you'd understand with all the identity theft going on and quit frankly I don't know him you so why would I give it to you. He just gave me my ticket. Gotta love those kinda cops. But not really.

redneck trick: if you can't afford a new windshield we'd use a black sharpie and trace over the crack.... the sharpie masks the crack and keeps it from reflecting in the sun which is usually how the cracks get spotted.

^Flicktitty^ LOL

Also the windshield is a structural part of the car (like the frame), if put in an accident it could result in you having greater injuries to yourself.

Yep, I got pulled over for a few black and pink strings hanging from my rearview mirror in Elm Grove. It was a good opportunity for the officer to check my window tint too. :durr

The registration thing is weird.

They don't ask for your registration when you get pulled over in Wisconsin?

Glad I'm not the only one around here with that many "meetings" with the cuties finest. Of course now I have a car that's incognegro so they don't even look my way anymore.

dumb question, but what the hell is registration? Like what paperwork are you suppossed to even have.

michelle
08-20-2009, 02:15 PM
It's the little 1/3 sheet of paper that comes with your original title. It's also the same thing you get when you renew your plates each year. You're supposed to keep it in your glovebox.

Also, your title does not belong in your glovebox. Working at the auction, you wouldn't believe how many people keep it there.

It's that receipt looking thing you get with your stickers that lists your info and the cars info, about the size of a business envelope

What if I have a bunch of cracks that are under eight inches. Does that qualify getting pulled over

Dasred
08-20-2009, 11:09 PM
Yeah, it's like not having a front plate right? Is it just a 10 day fix-it ticket?

I've been driving without a front plate for well over 2 years and never has it been mentioned in the 3 speeding tickets or 7 other times I've been pulled over.

They just wanna look at an impala that's different than theirs is what one of them told me.

I had a cop in Mukwonago pull me over for no front plate. He must have been bored because he was in front of me, pulled over and got behind me to pull me over. It was just a fix it ticket but still pointless
