I am looking for a reputable coin dealer in the Milwaukee area to have a collection appraised and possibly purchased. I am not a collector. I took a coin collection as payment for a debt owed to me and am trying to see what I can get out of it. I am looking for a recommendation of dealers that you have dealt with personally. Any help is appreciated.

They have been around forever, and are very honest.
My grandpa had a very large collection, and they went through it all overnight, and gave us the estimate the next morning, and cut a check that same day.

helps to know current gold and sliver prices as well, currently gold is at 942.00/oz even, silver 13.93/oz. these prices fluctuate constantly but that should help you get in the area. platinum is 1243.40 as of this post

I took 3 suitcases of coins to Derzon and they were great to deal with.

Thanks for the info. I'll give Derzon a visit and let you know how it turns out.

Isn't there a chocolate place next to Derzon? I remember going there as a kid, unless I'm completely off base.

Here’s a follow up from my first post.

I took this coin collection to Derzon, as some of you suggested. The people were very professional and answered the questions that I had. They offered $425 for the coins.
Not knowing anything about coin values, I thought I would get another opinion. I also took the collection to Greater Milwaukee Coins in Waukesha. Like Derzon, they also seemed very professional. I asked the same questions of both dealers and got the same answers, so I would trust that they were honest with me. This shop offered $497 for the collection, so I went with them.
Both dealers said that the high price of silver & gold has pushed up the value of coins with little collector value. The rare coins are valued more for their collector value, while the not-so-rare coins may be valued for their silver content.
