Okay, so it's not really mine, and it's not really new (it's a 2007) but this is what I drive every day at work.

42 feet long, 72,000 lbs, 13' high, and it's a turbocharged in-line 6 just like my Supra! :D Oh and it was a steal at only $800,000.

I see swirl marks all over the place. Time for some Car Depot detailing.:goof

Sweet ride. All you need is big push bars for all the morons that dont know what a siren and emergency vehicle is. Move the fuck over ass hole.

Detroit?

Yep, it's a Detroit Diesel. Some of the new ones are Cummins. Fortunately it doesn't have all the new emissions crap on it like the DPF and so forth. The next ladder we buy will have so much emissions garbage on it we'll be lucky to get it up to 55 in 5 minutes. This thing is a serious pig fuel-wise though. I'd be surprised if we get 3MPG out of it.

I did the tire shine thing not too long ago just to see how long it would last... stuck longer than I figured it would. Yep swirl marks all over the thing because there's this ridiculous idea that fire trucks have to be washed every damn day (which I refuse to do).

You know, I've noticed people in the Milwaukee area seem to be pretty good about getting out of the way when emergency vehicles come along... that isn't the case in Madison. To many people who have a grossly inflated opinion of themselves.

Yep it's a 2007 Pierce Quantum 105' Heavy Duty Aerial. What do I do? I'm the apparatus engineer (driver/operator)... I got promoted last (not this past) January. So I primarily do the driving/operation, but I go inside if we don't need to use the truck for anything.

Well, you can get it up to about 70-75 and that's about as fast as she goes. You lose A LOT of speed on any kind of incline though. The new ones are going to be governed to 55 or 65 MPH... here's to hoping it's 65 because I don't relish the idea of going down the interstate (or any of the highways we cover) at 55 MPH.

I've done the chassis alignment and prep of the custom Oshkosh based units slated for overseas shipment. One was headed to South America and was equiped with an 880hp Detroit, it was the fastest diesel class 8 truck I have ever driven even with the full fire body installed (less water).

72,000 lbs
Is that empty, or with full water tanks?

I believe that's dry weight, no fuel, no water, no foam, no tools, no people. These trucks definitely need more power. :D
