Does anyone have any 1066-DDR3 memory (either in their system or for sale)? I have an Intel X58 board with an i7-920 I'm trying to get going and Intel claims the i7 isn't compatible with the 1600 memory I bought. The board doesn't make it through the post sequence so I need to get some DDR3-1066 to test with. If you have a PC that uses 1066 and would be willing to let me borrow it for 30 seconds just to see if the board finishes posting that's all I need. I've got the board out of the case so I can bring it over to your place to do the test. I'd go out and buy/return if I could find any but Best Buy doesn't have any DDR3 in store and Milwaukee PC will charge me a restocking fee.

I dont think it's a problem with the ram, did you make sure your bios setting are ok. Check your ram's voltage and make sure it's in spec. DDR3 1600 will just run at 1066 speed when used in a mobo that doesnt support 1600 speeds.

I don't think it's the RAM either, but the Intel RMA department is hesitant to RMA the board unless I use EXACTLY the specs they say the i7 requires. Supposedly they say at the GSKILL RAM I have won't work (becaue it's 1600 and supposedly the i7 920 only allows a max of 1066) and also the RAM I have supposedly requires too much voltage. Apparently G.SKILL's website says "1.8v" even though "1.3 to 1.5v" is stamped on the DIMMS. By the way in case I haven't mentioned it... DON'T EVER BUY AN INTEL MOTHERBOARD. I'm approaching probably a 50%+ failure rate with their boards. Never had a problem with their CPUs... but at least 3 or 4 of the 6 Intel mobo's I've had or put computers together with have either been DOA or failed at some point. Anyway, the board doesn't boot at all. No video so no BIOS. It makes it about halfway through the POST and hangs. I have an Ultra-X diagnostic board which (among other things) displays the Port 80h POST codes.

Per the Intel tech, the board will support 1600, but the i7-920 will not. On the new i7s the memory controller is on the chip now like the AMDs. So I suppose it's *possible* there's an incompatability issue... but I would think the board would hang up during the memory initialization part of the POST and not where it's hanging up right now.

Sorry, I'm still using a E8500 and x48, so I do not have any ram to borrow. Did you try to boot up the system using only 1 stick of ram? That would rule out any triple channel issues.

Yep, and with no RAM it gives the beep appropriate beep and post code so the board is at least partially functional. Hopefully I'll be picking some used 1066 up on Monday.

Right off Intels site

* Four 240-pin DDR3 SDRAM Dual Inline Memory Module (DIMM) sockets
* Support for DDR3 1600 MHzς, DDR3 1333 MHzς, DDR3 1066 MHz
* Support for up to 16 GBς of system memory

Can you get into your Bios and check to see what its set for might need to change some things in there.

EDIT*********
NM didn't read part your post.

The CPU needs 3 Channels of DDR3 1066 MHz memory kinda whacked to sell a bored that works with i7 and offers you different ammounts ram to use.. But yet you have to buy something that they don't even state with CPU that have to use 1066

Like if you go to newegg. and Look at the 920 it states NOWHERE you have to use 1066 for it to work i guess
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115202

* 2.93 GHz and 2.66 GHz core speed
* 8 processing threads with Intel® HT technology
* 8 MB of Intel® Smart Cache
* 3 Channels of DDR3 1066 MHz memory

Double edit

IF you go and read some the reviews and what other people have in system some running 1333 and another has 1600

But most seem to be running different mother boards.
