I installed my PI vigilante 3600 stall yesterday. Ran into a couple problems but everything turned out fine, until i looked everything over. The bolts that mount the flex plate to the torque converter were too big. The bolts were tight but there was about 1/4 inch gap between the converter and the Flex plate. Are the thread lengths or dimensions different between converters?

I used shorter bolts of the same thread and everything and it runs great. Just curious if there is difference in sizing at all.

By the way its a 2001 Camaro z28 A4

did you shim the convertor pads correctly?

If you didn't, it won't be good for long!

usually you want about 1/8th inch gap. so when you tighten the 3 converter bolts down it pulls the converter out 1/8th of an inch away from the trans. Thats one of the crucial parts to a converter install. You really need to measure that gap and shim accordingly.

Is this a aftermarket (read TCI) or stock flexplate?

It is the stock flex plate. There was about an 1/8th inch gap between the flex plate and torque converter. When i put in the shorter bolts it pulled it all the way to the flex plate. Is that a bad thing? Is there any signs when driving that it would be off?
