I was actually just memberin back to the days of my 79'.. Takin the air cleaner lid off cuz that monster 2bbl. sounded so cool to my 16 year old dumbass... :durr

flipped air cleaner lid on the L69 dual snorkel air cleaner setup...

sounded too cool :) at the time, hahah

I bought my 79 (305 2bbl) when I was 15. Hung out with the older crowd. They were all flippin the lids so I thought I'd take it off completely to try to one-up em. Sounded really cool right before the rebuild when it backfired outta the carb all the time. :goof I wish I would've saved that cam! Couldn't get the car above 25 on the way to the garage. Cam's are supposed to have lobes right?? :durr I do still have a lifter from it somewhere though.. You could drink out of it if you wanted to... Yeah, she was a wee bit wore out!!!

Yeah, that cam had nothin on the whole back half!!! Almost completely round!!!!

Never understood the lid flip myself.. That's why I opted for the complete removal of the lid. Got to hear that 2bbl scream!!! :goof

Ahhh yes the great sound of a 2 barrel... hmmm.. i like 4 barrel... LOL i dont care about gas mileage!!! WHO DOES RIGHT? i also love the sound of burnin rubber and the smell of it....mmmmmmmm.. RUBBER:thumbsup

Did I do it? Well lets see, back in the day I had cherry bomb glasspacks on my '84 F150 2wd 351M. They cam straight off the manifolds and exited under the doors:durr Then I had one on my '85 Civic 4dr with custom 2.5" exhaust (only to make ricers think I was fast and piss them off when I wouldn't race them!:goof ) And I had a '90 Civic with one (painted silver for stealth factor) that one was really loud and rapped off like hell.

Moving on . . .

When I bought my black '84 Z28 it had 2 or 3 rods hanging out of the pan so I dug up a 350 (that turned out to be a pretty good stock motor) and threw it in. The engine was never supposed to be used for anything more than moving the car from shop to shop until I could build a new one so it had NO air cleaner/lid/housing AT ALL! Well the I lunched the tranny in my 4dr Civic and had to drive it like that (which I did think was cool as hell. I mean where can you find more BOG than a mechanical secondary Q-Jet that is way to small for the engine?! :nutkick That car had the factory 3" exhaust though so I didn't bomb it, it was loud enough to sound cool and kinda throaty.

These days I'm all about the Flowmaster and correct air/fuel/spark ratio's though so I don't think I'll be going after that illustrious BOGGING sound anymore;)

and if they could make Burning Rubber or Race Gas into perfume I'd buy it for the wife all the time. Then she wouldn't ever get any sleep either;)
