I know you guys don't really know me personally on here but I felt like sharing.

My wife Nicole is pregnant. We just had our first ultrasound yesterday. Crazy.

It's finally sinking in that this is really happening. We've been together for 14 years (been married for 3) and this is our first baby.

We aren't going to find out what the sex is though.

She is due at the end of March. We're pretty excited.

That depends on whether your baby is a sleeper or a cryer

We'll def. try and get some more in.

In fact keep the 29th open. It's my 30th and we're having a big bash and bonfire. I'm having 40lbs of live crawfish flown in from Louisiana for a crawfish bowl. :thumbsup

Congratulations. I'm kinda in the same boat as my wife is due in January with our first. I'm 34 and it's about time, but I still can't believe she's pregnant and it's 16 weeks already.

If you need any of the baby books, we got piles of them.

They are hard to comeby this time of the year. Crawdad season is really only until the end of July. But I'm ordering from one of the only places you can get'em live year round. AND these are JUMBO crawdads. 8-10 ct. So only 8-10 per lb. They are like mini lobsters. MMMMmmmM.

Congrats! I just became a dad last week and its for sure a different, but cool experience. I find my self forgetting more and more about car shit now too in favor of time with my little girl, so expect things to fade out of the picture that currently take up your time.

So we have been stressed out about the pregnancy.

When we first went to the Doctor to have Nicole's first check up they took blood to do tests.

Well it came back that she was a carrier of Cystic Fibrosis. They informed us of what that meant which is, if she and I are BOTH carriers our baby could possibly have Cystic Fibrosis.

Here's how it works. If only one of us is a carrier then it can not be passed on tot he child and the child would not have it. If we are bother carriers the baby could be a carrier like us, not be a carrier at all or have Cystic Fibrosis. There odds are actually 25% that the baby will have Cystic Fibrosis, 50% chance that it will be a carrier, and 25% chance it will not be a carrier or have Cystic Fibrosis at all.

Here (http://www.cff.org/) is info if you want to read about it.

Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that:

* clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections; and
* obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.

In the 1950s, few children with cystic fibrosis lived to attend elementary school. Today, advances in research and medical treatments have further enhanced and extended life for children and adults with CF. Many people with the disease can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s and beyond.

So the day after we got her test results in I went in and gave blood for them to test.

Well turns out I'm also a carrier. The doctor said that were the first couple in his 16 years of practice that both tested to be carriers. Awesome! (but not really) So there's the 25% chance the baby would have CF and a 75% chance it would not. While the odds are good it still freaks you out that your baby could have issues.

So the next step was to decide if we wanted to know or not and if we did she would have the have a CVS or Chorionic villus sampling which is a sample from the placenta that is then sent to a lab for genetic analysis.

We decided that we did want to know so last week Tue Nicole went and had the procedure done which was not fun. The basically stick a needle through her stomach and into the uterus to get a sample from the placenta. She said it was very painful and she was sore for a couple of days. The good thing about the test is that it is 100% accurate and we can also find out about downs syndrome and other defects.

The day after the test they got back initial results and the baby did not have downs syndrome and was otherwise healthy. It would 10 days though until we got the final results.

Well today the Doctor called Nicole and....THE BABY IS HEALTHY. It IS a carrier like both of us, but it will be just like Nicole and I and perfectly normal. WHAT A RELIEF. I can't tell you how relieved we are.

Well it's actually been weeks since we found out we were both carriers. They couldn't do the test until she was 10 weeks along. Which was last week.
