2002 V8 Ram, 130,000 miles. No A/C at idle, it just blows (strong) hot air. Above ~1kRPM, A/C works fine. Do you think it just needs to be re-charged or is the compressor going?

I'de say probably a recharge. But it could be something else i'de say bring it to like a tires plus they charger 19.99 for a a/c check witch evacs and recharges the system. If it works then you needed a recharge. If not it could be a elec. issue with the compressor

Make sure your cooling fan is pulling air a idle.........

Could be low/high pressure cut out switches. You need to see pressure at idle verses 1k or higher. Could be that the electric fan for the condenser is not running if equipped to cool/lower condenser pressure which is the hi side of the system.

Yea i knew it would have to be hooked up to a machine to make a good diagnoses
