we got a new tv and im trying to program the remote. i tried the "input code" method and the "find code" method and neither worked. is there a website somewhere with updated codes considering this is a new tv? of is the remote we have too old (weve had it for a few years).

I know theres a little book with all the codes for different brands. I don't have one though. Brands usually stick with the same IR remote signal types for a long time, so being a new tv/old remote should not be an issue.

Directly from instructions:

To program hold down <SELECT> & <MUTE> together until the mode butttons illuminate in slow rotation.

Enter the codes (1) at a time until the desired device shuts off.

When device shuts off hit the <SELECT> button to save the code.

Emerson TV codes: 016 - 023 - 053 - 064 - 103 - 139 - 158 - 159 - 164 - 165 - 166
167 - 168 - 169 - 392 - 400 - 401- 402 - 408 - 415.

Magnavox DVD codes: 138 - 143 - 146

Hopefully one of those work out for you, I know from experience that not all Emerson tv's will work with our remotes.

Google search for the remote type or serial # codes. I've done this for universals, maybe it would work.

yeah just do the <SELECT> & <MUTE> thing first and then enter the codes one after another until the tv turns off. after you enter the one that does turn the tv off then jsut hit the <SELECT> button and its all done.

your probably doing it all right but like I said, sometimes they just dont work with Emerson, prob because,as you can tell Emerson is one of the few brands that constantly change codes (that's why there is about 20 of them) and our books are kind of outdated.

would a new cable remote work? my aunt just got TW at her place and her remote was super easy to program. but since ive got you, i have a few more questions. we have an HD/DVR box in our living room hooked up to our HD tv via HDMI. we cannot change the volume on the box... the only volume we can adjust is on the tv itself... is this normal?

yeah when it is connected through HDMI it automatically locks the volume on the box at the "best" point. and no a new remote wont help, I get those tv's on a daily basis and everyone ends up having to use 2 seperate remote, one for volume and power and then our remote.
