I've had periodic issues where my Directv Tivo receivers will have to be rebooted because they freeze up. but other than that minor annoyance it has been fine.

Just got off the phone with a DirecTv rep to find out about upgrading to HD. I had heard about the SWM technology and wanted to see if I could get a dish and switch that supported it when they upgrade. They said it could only be installed on a brand new installation! The rep said he couldn't even order it for me!

Are there any DirectV techs on here that could give me more info? Can I buy the equipment and do it myself?

Be careful upgrading your service with DirecTV. Make sure you ask if it locks you into a longer contract. I upgraded one of my boxes to HD and it magically added another year to my contract. Then when you try and fight it they tell you they told you that, but they don't.

There's crap all of the internet about how they scam people with that move.

I myself can't wait till I can dump them.

No issues here.

But I intend to switch over to U-Verse when my contract expires.

No issues.
Other than a little bit when I tried TWC for TV I've had Directtv since 02 when I bought the house. Always been happy.

I have directv. I have the freezing issue once awhile with my tivo box, but its pretty rare. Otherwise it works great. We've had directv for so long, we don't even have a contract anymore.
