anyone ever buy anything off of www.swoopo.com (http://www.swoopo.com) ? pretty crazy. it costs $.60 to place a bid, and placing bids extends the time of the auction. i checked it out and stuff seems to go for pretty cheap. seems to good to be true, but according to msn it is legit: http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/SmartSpending/ConsumerActionGuide/the-crack-cocaine-of-auction-sites.aspx

Interesting. You sparked my curiosity.

i am going to sign up and see what i can pick up! been watching some auctions and there are deals to be had out there as long as you keep track of how many bids you place. i can see how that can get expensive.

google it before you do. There are lots of articles about how big a rip off it is.

I registered to browse auctions, but I am already seeing auctions that never seem to end. Looks like a ripoff to me, but I could be wrong.

Its a gimmick to get people to spend money. It costs XX to bid, then when you do the time of the auction goes up another 30 seconds or minute or whatever.

So what happens is. Most of the auctions say they have 1 minute or something on them however once they get lower into the few seconds range someone will place a bid on the item since it is so low priced. Well then the auction will extend for more time. In fact many of the auctions stay in the "few minutes left" range for over a few days!

Swoopo makes money off each bid and could really care less if the item sells for cheap at the end, because they have already gotten people to pay for the item AND SOME with all of their bids.

It is more like playing the lottery than a real auction. And like most lotteries/casinos you are just throwing your money away... except for that one lucky person.

Damn that makes me mad!

Oh well. It looked too good to be true anyway.

i wouldn't call it a gimmick. if you go into it with the "lottery" mentality and just be cautious of how much you bid, i would think that you could have some fun!???

I've never heard of it and my filter at work blocked me. I'll check it out when I get home.

Interesting. I see your point Murray. Kinda of like a raffle almost... except the last person to buy a ticket is the winner... and all you win is that you get to buy whatever the item is for the price.

http://www.uniqueauction.com/ is kind of the same idea.

Whoever places the highest unique bid, wins the item.

Say it's a PS3, and 1 guy bids $144, and ten other guys bid $145, six others bid $199, and bunch of others bid lower than $144, etc. etc... the guy with the solo bid of $144 wins it.

Weird, but legit, has been around for years now.

I fell into this a few months back ! If you want to sit and watch a auction sit at $2.00 for days --the auctions start at 1 cent so if its at 2 bux that is telling you 1000 people with no life have been letting it count down to 3 seconds just to bid 1 penny FOR DAYS!!! just to bid 1 penny and ad 10 sec. to the auction!!! you will never see them end!!!! I would rather spend the grand for a LCD tv than go through that just to save a few bucks.
I still have 50 bids I bought.
Watch it for a few days before you buy bids, you'll see what I mean:rolf
