Mark and I are moving and we can have a small dog now. Just wondering if anyone is getting rid of a dog or knows someone who is? Its got to be under 30lbs and can only be 14 inches tall. Thanks!

I would definitely recommend going through the humane society, much cheaper, you know they're clean, and you can usually find one that's already well trained.

I agree with the Humane Society. I got my dog there and she was potty trained already. I lucked out and got a smart dog, easily trainable and so glad I got her.

We adopted Howie, our beagle, from the humane society. He was a rescue from Kentucky (since they really don't have no-kill shelters down there) and we lucked out too, since he was crate trained, sits on command, and was fairly good on the house training. If you do look at Craigslist in the Pets section, you will see a lot of links for rescues that pick up dogs from Kentucky and the Tennessee area to save them from being put down. Usually the adoption fee is $75. Howie even had a rabies shot before he left KY, which is really rare for a stray dog to get.

Good luck on picking out a dog!

My yellow/golden retriever is from the humane society and is the coolest dog I've ever met/owned. +1 for the humane society.

I walked in under the mindset that I was going to adopt whichever dog was the one that wasn't barking like crazy while the other dogs went nuts. That's what I did and don't regret it one bit.

Also try rescue associations too...the dogs there are every bit as worthy of rescue, trained, etc.

We got Dudley from the northern Illinois pug rescue....through petfinder.com (http://www.petfinder.com). Great site, let's you put in your desire (IE, smaller, lighter dog), breed/mixes (IE, pug, bedlington, beagle, whippet, etc, and all dogs with those breeds particular mixes), age (from infant puppy to older dogs).

Here's dud:

Rescuing a dog is fun...go for one a little older (4-5 years) for the easiest rescue experience.

Yeah we have been looking online at the humane society. We just wanted to see if anyone here needed to give a dog a home first before we went through with it. thanks!

Adopt him and Meg and I'll take care of him until you move (provided you're certain you're moving soon). Seriously.

Pugs are awesome little dogs. My sister had two (the youngest just past) and they're awfully loving little creatures. They are so much better behaved than our Jack Russell's, but with all of the personality. Most likely, our next little dog is going to be a Pug.
