View Full Version : What was your first bike?

Mine was a 1966 Honda S90. Rode it around the back yard a bit, never had it on the street (I was nine). Around the time I turned 13 or 14 I got a 1973 CL200. I consider that my first real bike. It looked like the CL350 pictured below, except is was blue with white. My buddy had a solid green CL350 like the one pictured in high school. I know where I can snag up a '70 CB350, I really want it, but IDK if I need another project.

Anyone else start out on old 70's machines?

When i was 13 i got a 1972 Honda Cl 100. Still have it but it sits in my parents shed. Moved on to a 1989 kawi zx600r, then a 1992 kawi zx-7 and lastly a 1999 yamaha r6 i sold a few months ago.

Looking to move into a liter bike this fall maybe.

I started out on a 2005 Kawasaki Ninja 250 I bought brand new at the time. Was a nice little bike but once I rode my brother's Honda CBR600 F3 I wanted a bigger motorcycle so I bought the one I have now - 2002 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R.

1993 CBR600 F2.

Had that for a couple months then did the '97 GSX-R750.

That CBR was cool cause it was the black w/ silver and red color scheme. I had sat on one when I was younger and always loved it. So All Pro had one when I stopped in one day. Had to buy it.

Not quite as old of bikes as everyone else, haha

Not it, but what it looked like:

http://www.vintagebike.co.uk/Bike%20Directories/Honda%20Bikes/images/Honda-CM400-81.jpg

1981 Honda CM400. Started riding it when I was 13 in my backyard...moved up to dirt and farm roads when we moved up to wisconsin at age 14. Very slow...which made it the perfect bike for me to learn on. Our shop at the high school actually had a couple CM 400's with automatic transmissions.

I got a package deal of a cb350, a cl350 and an xs650 for $50 when I was 14 or 13. I made one good cb350 out of the two and sold the 650.

A POS Honda CB 125. A 1970 IIRC. Took that engine apart and put it back together a thousand times. Learned alot about wrenching from that thing!

1983 Suzuki RM... I was 9 years old and my Dad already put the racing reeds in it. I almost shit myself when I hit the power band the first time. After that, couldn't find me unless I was home refilling the tank!

Started riding on a Honda XL175 once I was tall enough to kick start it on my own. It's one of those street legal type dirt bikes.

My first real street ride was / is a CB350F, which I still own. Actually I own all the pieces and need to put her back together someday.

Moved on to an 80s style Magna.

And now I ride a Honda 919.

Future plans are to get some kind of touring bike that can handle 2 up riding comfortably but that may be a few years off.

^^^ CB350F: sexiest header ever. I've seen the 350 fours before, but never heard one. I can only imagine that little four sounds miraculous.

Unfortunately going back to a stock 4 into 4 configuration would cost a small fortune. Even when I got the bike it had been converted to a 4-2 setup. (Old Japanese exhausts like to rust and disintegrate.) There are a couple aftermarket places out there making 4-1 headers for the 350Fs and the 400 super sports which will probably end up on my bike.

So if you ever hear me tearing around town it won't sound like it did in the 70s, but hopefully it will end up with a nice little growl.

I was thinking the 400F's factory header. ^^ Pure sex. I cant imagine the factory 4:4 pipes sounding good. My '82 CB750K sounded like a sewing machine with the stock 4:4 set up.
