I received this in a e-mail :thumbsup

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student, but had once failed an entire class.

That class had insisted that socialism worked; that no one would be poor, and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on socialism. All grades would be averaged, and everyone would receive the same grade; so no one would fail, and no one would receive an A.

After the first test, the grades were averaged, and everyone got a B . .

The students who studied hard were upset, and the students who studied little were happy.

As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less, and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too, so they studied little.

The second test average was a D! No one was happy.

When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

The scores never increased as bickering, blame, and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings, and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

To their great surprise, all failed. So too, the professor told them, would socialism also ultimately fail. For when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great; but when government takes away all reward, no one will try or want to succeed.

Can it be any simpler than that?

I just love how they were so insistent that it would work, but it just came back to bite them all in the ass, just like real socialism/communism does.

The sad thing, however, is that they will not learn their lesson, and in 2012 will vote to re-elect Obama, just like they've been conditioned to do.

What college did this? Or is this some internet blarny?

I believe it though. We need more of these types of classes to force the college professors to teach reality to their students.

When I went to college, your grade was completely dependent on your performance, hence the message of this thread.

It's certainly an allegory...but a good one at that. Not sure that it would work out this way in real life college classroom, just because there are kids that are driven to succeed beyond a single class.

But what is does is take Econ 101 (Keynesian Theory Macroeconomics) and places it into a real world learning experience versus theory.

Most kids in college driven to succeed are almost solely focused on the grade point and recieving an "f" gives 0 points towards their GPP. Still took the credits, but got 0 towards their average. Effectively lowering their GPP.

Reality sucks.

The more I think about it, I wonder how many of these kids and their parents threw a shit-fit about this after the fact, wanting to opt out?

The professor and college should stand firm on these grades. Let them continue to learn the lesson of "Obamanomics" that the nation is now facing , where we are not allowed to opt out, and crying about it after the fact falls on deaf ears.

Note to Others: review history of Milwaukee and when it was a "great city." Emphasis on state and city governments.

Are you referring to the administrations of Hoan and the Zeidlers? They were Socialists, but the only reason Milwaukee was a great city is that is was in a capitalistic nation and people pretty much worked and earned and saved for themselves. Milwaukee wasn't really a Socialist entity as the USSR was or as Cuba is. The Socialists did create the park system and the Natatoria and the educational system of Milwaukee, plus created the city's mass transit system. Other than that, they did not control the businesses or own the businesses and factories. We know what factories produced under the Socialist flag...can you say Trabant, Yugo, Lada? Major crap!

Yes, I understand all of that, but it is more than schools and parks. Don't forget about the sanitation and health systems. Milwaukee was a very healthy city back then; cannot say that today. Also, the common name for the party was the "sewer socialists."

Pure socialism, like pure capitalism, does not work very well. IMO, the two are like yin and yang. They are opposites, but they need each other, and one cannot properly exist without the other. One can identify itself as being not like the other.

Did you ever hear about "engineered obsolescence"? It was very popular during the 70's. It also paved the way for the import vehicle market

Check These Out:

Also, the former Soviet Bloc manufacturers were under a totalitarian states and had a whole set of other issues. Don't forget the difference between socialism and communism.

You do understand that they are opposites, right?

If there was only one form of political structure, would we even have a name for it?

You and I need to kick it some day.
