Don't know if anyone from BCM plans to go this year, but...
As far as "Car Events" go the WDC is off the scale!
Hundreds of thousands of cars and trucks and bikes, over 2 million people converge on Greater Detroit for the weekend. There's so much "cool" you have to see it to believe it!
The Cruise is for anyone and everything. Think of the Hotrod Power Tour times 1,000.

http://www.woodwarddreamcruise.com/

For the Ford/Mustang fans, we have our own activities/events as well. "Mustang Alley" in Ferndale is the place to be! Ford is putting on a big show this year with a Friday cruise event to the Dearborn Proving Grounds. Motor City Terminators is sponsoring Mustang Alley as well. You can signup for parking here:

This event is worth the drive, be there!!!!

Been there more than a few times. AAMOF, I have only MISSED it a few times, lol. Mustang Alley is for sure the bomb for Mustang peeps, but you will see cars all weekend that you won't see at the highest end shows around the world. Back in "the day" prototypes and one off concepts didn't go into storage like they do today, they went home with engineers and the top brass if they took a liking to it, and you will see them out and about during the WDC. It's simply the best moving car show ever.

I know Shaun (1320PNY), Jason (Fanatic), and I plan on going. Trying to get the one, the only, the Boosted91Pony to go to......

Well let's setup a cruise over there to The Motor City Bob!
I stay at a decent place in Troy, up in the 'burbs, it's clean and safe and there's a place to wash/detail your car. I have some good connections at Ford Performance Group/SVT, some good friends of mine live right off Woodward in Royal Oak. Last year we had a primo-prime spot to watch the goings-on.

Here's some pix from last summer... :shades

For sure. Plan on leaving Friday AM I am thinking, but it's up to the whole group, I am pretty flexible. I am not sure of my accomodations yet, still trying to get in with one of my ex in-laws (who are much cooler than the actual ex:rolf), but if not, I think Jason has some rooms rented for us.

Cant wait! Been wanting to do that cruise event for a few years now.

Pulled an all nighter and brought the car home this morning. When I got home I told the wife good morning, it was a quarter after 5am. I think I'm running out of steam. So far I only got two one hour naps.

By the way I've only blipped the throttle a few times and it's an animal! Getting pretty excited when I have the motor broke in. For being n/a it seemed to pull better than my s/c fox. It's definitely snappier! :thumbsup

** sorry for going slightly off topic, I'm pretty excited!

I usually leave early Friday, I like to stop in Jackson at Paul's High Performance and visit with Paul & Ronda & Karl & Jeff... If we don't make the ride together, I'll look for you guys at Ferndale... :thumbsup

I don't think I can get off work Thursday. I stay up in Troy, near Big Beaver Road and I-75... (Insert the BCM Big Beaver Road jokes here)
It's really nice up there, good eateries... It's a straight shot right to Ferndale and I know my way around the side streets... I know a back way into Mustang Alley.

Bob, Imagine your cars sound multiplied by 10! Went with Pypes Violators turned down before the axle. I definitly wont be able to "sneek" up on anyone. Besides the sound you can see the sumped tank, pump and hoses. It's stock? :D

Ok cool... If you haven't done so already I strongly suggest you guys sign up for spots at Mustang Alley, you aren't obligated to take them, you are basically reserving spots and you pay on the morning of the event.

Woodward Dream Cruise is defiantly the best show of the year. We get there on Wednesday to do more cruising on Wednesday and Thursday unlike Friday and Saturday “just to many cars”. But for us we park in Royal Oak at Royal Oak Ford. John Vermeersch of Total Performance sets it up the parking. The cars that park there are the cars that dominated Woodward back in the day.

I can't leave until Friday, I have to work Thursday Bob.
Also, I have a reservation at the Motor City Terminators lot if anyone wants it, as I got a reserved spot thru SVTOA right in the middle of Woodward in Royal Oak, with "come and go" privileges so that's where I will be "stationed" for the weekend. I'm staying in Troy, which is a short drive to my parking space.

PM me some cell numbers you guys, so we can hook up out there.
My car should be easy to spot anyway. ;)
Let's have dinner or lunch or something... :thumbsup

Is the MCT spot a come and go spot as well? I think so if I remember right that there were cars coming and going all day through Mustang Alley. Regardless, I will take it, saves me the time of signing up I guess, lol.

Followup for Mustang owners who have registered for the Mustang Alley event:

The Mustang Alley Team proudly announces the extension of the Mustang Alley Experience to include a track driving event on Friday, August 14, 2009 at the Dearborn Development Center (formerly known as the Dearborn Proving Grounds)!

This event is offered at no cost to those of our guests who have registered for the Mustang Alley event on Saturday August 15 - however the track event is limited to 100 persons and/or 65 Mustangs, whichever comes first. An additional registration is required by clicking here: http://www.motorcityterminators.org/mustangalley/FridayEvent/signup.asp

For those of you who register for this event in time, a conformation E mail will be sent to give you further information and directions for the event.

Requirements to participate
1. You must be registered for Mustang Alley to participate in this event

2. You must fill out an additional registration for this event (linked above and detailed below)

3. Participants must be at least 18 years of age

4. Closed toe shoes and long pants are required. Business casual would be preferred however nice jeans and shirts are OK. Please, no tank tops.

5. No cameras or cell phones with image capturing devices will be permitted. We will ask to inspect your cell phone and ask that you surrender any phones with cameras prior to the event (they will be returned post event). Photos will be taken by one of our photographers and available on-line.

6. A valid drivers license is required

7. A release of liability waiver will be required

8. All participating Mustangs will have to pass a safety inspection and have registration and proof of insurance on the vehicle prior to going to the track.

What is required from you?
We need to collect some information; Your name, year and model of Mustang (yes, mustangs only allowed for this event), if you will be bringing a guest (please note, a strict limit of 1 guest per registration, and no more then 2 people per Mustang will be allowed for this event), an E mail address and phone number where you can be reached. This information will be collected via the web link listed above. This information will be kept private and properly disposed of at the conclusion of the event. You will be asked at the time of the event to sign a release of liability waiver and your Mustang must pass a safety inspection.

What do you get in return?
We will provide to you directions to our "undisclosed location" where we will introduce you to the team, hold a safety inspection of your Mustang, and take care of the waivers. This will all get underway promptly at 8:00am on the morning of the 14th.

Following the formalities, you will then take your Mustang on a Police escorted cruise to the Dearborn Proving Grounds for a parade lap on the track and photos of you and your car on the track. We will then divide you into four groups, and the fun really begins!

GUIDED TRACK TOURS: Explore the grounds in our shuttle and see the some of the tests we run our vehicles through, including the straightaway, handling course, and world roads.

HOT LAPS with a professional driver: Each participant will have a chance to take the ride of their life with a professional Ford Motor Company driver through the steering and handling course. It will be the luck of the draw, but vehicles for this event could range from a mild Mustang Shelby to the wild 700 horsepower Ford GT... a ride to guarantee a smile on your face!

PRECISION DRIVING ON THE HANDLING COURSE: You as the driver get to take one of our cars through some of its paces on the back half of the steering and handling course. Accompanied by one of our professional drivers, we may even be able to give you some pointers.

LUNCH: While not quite as exciting as hot laps... everyone's got to eat, and we've got tons of food, so throughout the event we'll serve up lunch and beverages (did we mention this is all included, and its FREE?!) and give you a chance to explore some of the current products our company has available. From the green Hybrid Fusions to, 2010 Mustangs and Super Duties, we may even roll out some test properties and have a photo opportunity with the infamous Ford GT. Several of our product specialists will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.

We'll close out the event and have you back in your cars and on your way around 4:00PM.

So are you ready to have the full Mustang Alley Experience? Click the link above and sign up!

So far it looks clear in Detroit from Wed through Sunday. Any reports on who's headed out, when, and where from?

I vote Flying J (just South of airport) at 8:30 AM Thursday morning. We can surf the wave between rush hour and lunch. It is on the way to the Skyway. We will have to fuel up just before the IL border anyway, or else face the possibility of fueling in Gary, IN.

So who's on board?

I have made several trips over there in three different Mustangs- Usually you can make it easily into Michigan, well past Gary and that's from way up here where I live... I also usually go right thru downtown Chicago and stay on 94 unless it's torn up now? Even with the "45" speed limit, everybody's going much faster...
But it's fine by me whatever route you guys want to take?

I also usually go right thru downtown Chicago and stay on 94 unless it's torn up now? Even with the "45" speed limit, everybody's going much faster...
But it's fine by me whatever route you guys want to take?

Yeah, I have been to Detroit about a gazillion times (ex was from there, so lots of trips home), it's easiest to stay on 94. We can also use a route via our GPS's that avoid tolls. You get to see some nice neighborhoods (emphasis on the "hoods") that way. But 8:30 at the Flying J is fine by me.

I was gonna borrow a friend's IPASS for the tolls... There's only a few anyway, one just past the state line and the one around the turn at the spilt between 94 and 294?

Weather's lookin' good dues!!! :thumbsup

Still meeting at Flying J. If you want to pull off at 20, that's fine, but Jason is coming down Hwy 100 so we should all meet there and then roll. Keeping on 94 is probably a good idea. 8:30 at the J is convenient and the extra stop at 20 isn't going to hurt anyone.
