Billy Mays, best known for his high-energy infomercials, has died at the age of 50.

Police have confirmed that he died Sunday morning. He was found at home by his wife at 7:45 a.m.

Police said there was no sign of a break-in, and they do not suspect foul play.

The coroner's office expects to have an autopsy done by Monday afternoon.

Mays became famous for his amped-up infomercials and spots on the Home Shopping Network. His ads featured him shouting about the virtues of products like OxiClean and Orange Glo while demonstrating their efficacy.

Most recently, he teamed up with fellow pitchman Anthony Sullivan for the Discovery Channel documentary "Pitchmen."

Mays was a passenger on the US Airways 737 aircraft that took a hard landing at Tampa International Airport on Saturday, an airport spokesperson has confirmed.

Mays posted about the incident to his Twitter account.

"Just had a close call landing in Tampa," he wrote. "The tires blew out upon landing. Stuck in the plane on the runway. You can always count on US Air."

Officials have not said if his death is connected to that incident.

Mays' wife, Deborah, released a statement Sunday.

"Although Billy lived a public life, we don't anticipate making any public statements over the next couple of days. Our family asks that you respect our privacy during these difficult times."

Mays' son, Billy, posted to his Twitter account this morning, "My dad didn't wake up this morning.. I'm sure you'll all hear about it. It hasn't yet hit me but it's about to."

Though they are saying there was no connection to the hard landing and his death, we might have another case like Natasha Richardson; in which a hit to the head/sudden jarring that wasn't terribly hard or left the victim immediately incapacitated may end up being the cause of death.

I think you can add the Grabit to that list. It's a pack of three different sized drill bit heads that you use to drill a special hole into a seized screw, and then use the other side of the bit to grab the screw and reverse it out. On the infomercial Billy Mays cut off the head of a screw, and still got it out no problem.

I need to buy one because i have 3 seized screws on the delorean that PB Blaster and WD-40 can't help, but I thought I seen them at Walgreens recently so i guess I'll get one to try it out..

They say bad things come in threes. Leave it to Billy Mays to throw in one extra COMPLETELY FREE!

(Assuming, of course, you count McMahon, Fawcett, and Jackson.)

It wasnt the plane crash.. It was a pulmonary embolism. Head trauma had nothing to do with it.

No since it was a blood clot in the lung it most likely did not have anything to do with any sort of hear trauma. Although, any head trauma should be checked out since brain hemorrhaging occurs slowly and with few signs. However, is it now shown that long plane flights can put a person at high risk for pulmonary embolisms. Therefore, it was most likely that the plane ride caused the clot to move from somewhere in the body (most likely the legs) to move to the lungs and killing the guy. Usually its not fatal, especially if caught right away, but he must have been alone.

Great point. My dad had a clot travel to his lungs after a flight to Japan late last year. He collapsed suddenly in April while walking to a fish fry, and it nearly killed him. The only thing that saved him was a very powerful anticoagulant, one which they reserve for only the most serious cases. So I can definitely see the similarities here. Too bad Billy Mays didn't catch his in time. Had he collapsed while he was awake and around others, he might of had a chance, but it happened while he slept, without any indication.

yeah, but he's not able to do some of the physical stuff like he used to, not by half.

so now when he comes over to help with a project he pretty much assumes the role of "supervisor" :)

still, thanks for bringing that subject up, if for no other reason than to raise awareness of this increasingly common health issue.

Well, at least he is well and you are still able to spend time with him, even if its a supervisory role. haha. And no problem on bringing it up, I'm going to school for it so its nice to be able to help bring some more awareness to others about such medical problems.
