Roxy didnt make it through her surgery. We took her in this morning to have her spleen removed and to attempt to redirect her bile ducts to alleviate her bile back up problems. Well once inside opened up they found the blockage was due to numerous tumor clusters and cancer in other organs. They called us to let us know that she wouldnt recover from the surgery as expected if at all.

I NEVER regret a decision I ever make/made EXCEPT this one. I wish I had kept her overnight and had taken her in tomorrow as I had a feeling something was going to happen and I wish I had just one more night with her.

To say my kids are devastated is an understatement, for me I cant even begin to explain how bad this hurts:crying

For those that knew her, knew she was a HUGE baby and loved people! We found Roxy 11 years ago(then 3 yrs old) as a stray and even the first day we found her, she would listen and respond and even shake hands with you. She knew when Deb was 1st pregnant and never left Deb's side and this was 2 weeks before we ever knew! Roxy was lying with our newborns since day one and NEVER even nipped at them when they would poke her eyes, pull her tail or attempt to ride her. She almost never barked unless someone approached the house that we didnt know. She could sleep in our bed and wouldnt get on a couch unless you invited her.

She was truly my first kid and I will forever miss her.

I feel for ya yoo. Last august we put our 15 year old dog down. We had him since I was 5 or 6. But the thing to remember is the dog is in a better place now, no more suffering. Sounds like your pup had a good long life. I could only imagine how tough the grieving is with the little ones.....

OMG Yoosof!!! That sux something fierce!! You've had her for as long as I've known you! I remember her always being in the apartment when we'd shoot over for either a video game night or movie night or anything.

Coop is right. Sad when someone you know dies, but a dog or other pet...even more so. They don't get to tell you something is wrong or they are sick. You just feel helpless.

Dogs/pets add so much to this life.

They really are an extension of the family.

Don't know if you'll bother to read all this, but if you do-

We had a Scotty as our last dog Yoo... She was already kinda old when we got her. She was one of the best dogs I've ever had. She got cancer, had a bad tumor on her rump, the size of a golf ball. She had surgery and it was cut out and she lived another couple of years, but it came back and spread all over. We knew she was in distress in her last days, it got where she could hardly walk. She loved to sit in my recliner and watch TV with me... One night she started having really labored breathing. I knew she didn't have long. The next morning I took her to the vet to see if they could do anything. Our vet, who is a great lady, said the dog was suffering and we should put her down. She wanted to do it right there. I said no, I didn't want my kids to come home from school to hear she had been put down without saying goodbye to her. I asked if we could wait, she said ok. I took Steffi back home, and when Mikey and Marggi came home from school, they were able to say goodbye to Steffi. Mikey came with me back to the vet. I carried her in, and like was mentioned in the other thread, I held her while they got ready to do it. Then Dr. Little said "Are you ready?"
I said yes and she pushed the needle in. Steffi didn't do anything but go right to sleep, no flinching, just closed her eyes and went away. Mike and Dr. Little walked out of the room and I held her in my arms on that cold table. I am not ashamed to admit that I could not stop crying. After about 15 minutes, Dr. Little and her assistant came in the room and she said "Greg you have to let her go now"

Now we have Nikki. She's a German Shepherd/Sheltie and she's beautiful and incredibly smart. We rescued her from the Ozaukee Humane Society. Nikki has her own unique personality and is awesome. I try not to think about the future, as I've had many dogs, we know what happens eventually. We just are thankful for her and enjoy what she brings to our lives. She's laying here right by my chair...

I'm very sorry to hear about Roxy Yoo. She was a very friendly dog and I remember meeting her at your house for last year's BCM car show "staff" meeting. I'm glad you did pick up another puppy to help ease the pain. It won't change how you feel about Roxy, but I hope it helps your children get through this tough time.

Best wishes from Adam, myself, and our zoo.

Sorry to hear about this Yoo. Dogs are awesome, they bring so much to the table!!! Like others have said, at least her suffering has stopped, and she is in a better place. Prayers sent for you and your family to make the memories of your time with her more prevelent than the loss.

damn, I had pretty much the same situation years ago, except ours had a heart attack while laying on the living room floor, didn't make it through surgery :/

I don't know how you feel about getting another dog right away, but we took an abandoned shepherd in only a few weeks after and she really helped things.

It is hard. Our Margaret passed away a little over a year ago. We planted her ashes along with a tree in our yard so Trace can give her a hug whenever he wants now.

Wishing you and your family peace.

Sorry to hear this Yoo. Roxy was an awesome dog. Seemed to always know when a friend was comming by, and even though she didnt know me as well as say Chris or Coop, the few times I came by she never barked and was always really friendly. Losing a loveable pet that is a member of the family stinks man. I wish I had one more day with my Huskey before I had to give him up.....I miss that dog, but in the end, it was for the best.

Sorry to hear this Yoo. Losing a dog sucks. When I moved out of my parents house a number of years ago, we had a husky that I had grown up with in my teen years. About 5 years after I moved out and hadn't really seen much of her, my parents had to put her down. It hit me hard even though I hadn't seen her in so long. I now have two labs, one is almost seven and the other four. not looking forward to those days when i have to make that decision

Sorry to hear man. I know how hard it is.. heck alot of us on here know its an awful feeling. :crying Kids will cheer up with a puppy perhaps? :)

Yooformula
06-25-2009, 10:27 PM
surprisingly the puppy isnt helping. nobody wants to open up to another dog yet and seeing her reminds them of Roxy as the little one was attached to her side. Our house is unusually quiet for the first time that I can remember.
