Used Motor Install?

i posted a few days back about a buddys car that overheated and is dead...

he wants to keep the car and have a used motor dropped in when he can afford too...how much is he looking to spend total? any where you have had luck with? thanks car is a 99 malibu

Al Schills, but you pull it. Call B & M Auto Salvage in Waukesha, they have engines and transmissions already pulled.

Why? Unless he wants to put in a V8 and make it rear wheel drive I see no point. Another one can be bought for less that the cost of repairs unless he is doing it totally himself.

90% of schills engines if they ran when the got the car they are pulled right away

Depends on how much the engine costs and what the labor to put it in is, I can get engines for $250 and $500 installation so in that case no it would not be cheaper to get a whole new car.

Those 3.1's actally get a little pricey, especially if you want one with lower miles. Prolly because they are so common to replace (along with the 3.4's). Try looking on http://www.car-part.com. I've had good luck finding motors on there. I've bought prolly 4 or 5 3.1/3.4's in the last year or so. Or has he considered repairing the engine?? More than likely the one of the head gaskets went.

- 3.1L V6 engine/trans with 72k miles removed (by me) from a `97 Pontiac Grand AM, ran/shifted great. Some minor misc. parts (exhaust bolts, injector wiring plugs, etc) have been removed but for the most part it's all there.....
