See, I think HDR has no right or wrong (unless it's really bad) but personally, I think that looks too "fake"

To me, the purpose of HDR is to display the colors in as realistic a portrayal as possible, how the human eye would see it in real life. That looks almost cartoonish, like a drawing or painting.

Nice picture though for sure!

Looks fake to me also, like the car was cut & paste into the picture... looks off in terms of scale to the building? *shrug*

Hell, the car takes away from it :P

Still decent though :)

it should look surreal

First things first: I don't know jack shit about photography, but I can apreciate a pretty picture. Here's my thoughts: The house on the left needs to be chopped out; it's out of place and distracting. With the "shadowing" (?) along the roofline and the darker boards on the barn the rear and roof of the car get lost. And I think the car should be facing the other direction so the roof of the barn and lean too compliment the silhouette of the car.

Those things said; that picture is dope as shit and has been added to my screensaver file of pictures.

I like it except for the house on the left in the background.

Looks like just the car and wood shack is HDR the house is so plain being white it doesnt appear to be HDR kind of looks photo shopped but this is how I like HDR images.

Way overdone. I'm tired of people fucking up HDR photography and shifting the standards from what they have always been. Regardless of what they think it looks like, that can easily be achieved in photoshop.

The composition needs work before anything else. Looks like a snapshot from a point and shoot.

well said, overdone is probably the best word for it. It took me a while before I figured it "somewhat" out, but it's a lot of work to get an HDR to not look overdone, or underdone for that matter.

Can someone post an example of what is right? I understand that the OP looks like a rendered drawing, but is there any HDR of cars that looks crisp, but not overdone?

I like Ansel Adams. I just googled Le Grey and his stuff is fantastic. I'm still interested in good HDR of cars. I just got CS4 yesterday and it has an HDR generator, but I'm looking for "the goal" for when I start playing with this stuff.

Honestly - it's of my opinion there really are no good car shots of HDR, and if there are I've only seen a few, and they are lost in the flood of shit out on the net. I'll try and find something well balanced. I'm a snob. I only think it should be used for landscapes. :D

This is a great HDR shot.

Agreed. The most that this photo demonstrates is the use of a software program.

like stated above, HDR has no correct or one look ( personally ) it all depends on how the creator envisioned it or wanted it to look. sometimes people make 3 different HDR of one picture ( Ive done this in the past )

this one doesnt look bad http://www.abduzeedo.com/files/hdr/subaru_HDR_3_by_exxx2005.jpg

OK, 2nd one is GREAT! That's how I feel an HDR should look. First one, again, looks too cartoon-ish. Almost air-brushed, esp the trees and background.

Here are a few of cars that I found that I personally think are great. Here is a quote from a site regarding HDR as well. I think the following images are the truest to this information....

Applied carefully, High Dynamic Range-technique (HDR) can create incredibly beautiful pictures which blur our sense of the difference between reality and illusion. In graphics HDR imaging is a set of techniques that allow a far greater dynamic range of exposures than normal digital imaging techniques. The intention is to accurately represent the wide range of intensity levels found in real scenes, ranging from direct sunlight to the deepest shadows. from http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2008/03/10/35-fantastic-hdr-pictures/

I concur on the second one...but the first one isnt bad either.

you have to think of photography as not just photography anymore, its more of a art. ( which in a sense always has been, but with the digital world, it makes it easier )

its all on how the taker / editor wants it to look!

Very true. It's all an expression. I just look at HDR and see how it's defined, to be as realistic or accurate as possible and I see those cartoonish looking pictures, and it just doesn't do it for me.

That's the beauty of it though, it's all in the eye of the beholder!

I like both ways. I love the well done HDR, where is doesnt look cartoonish. but I like the cartoonish scene, pending on what the picture is of.

maybe Ill post up some of mine sometime. or maybe Ill even post up my site.

its just I look at my pictures and think they are OK, but when others see them, they say they are great.... :confused
