This is an issue more centered on Bridge but applies to CSx Photoshop. Does not apply to Lightroom.
If you are like me and use Bridge alot you will get an error at start up saying that it "has encountered an error and must close". The following will most likely fix your error.
Hold down the ctrl-shift-alt buttons as you start up Bridge. Command, option and shift buttons on a Mac. You will be given a startup screen with three options, the second option, "Clear thumbnail cache", is what you are looking for. Reset preferences and reset default workspace are your other choices, which you may also find handy at some point as well.
Not sure what the Lightroom sequence for clearing settings/cache is though.
