I don't know anything about them, fiance needs one as she's starting a part time job (home care nursing) that will require one. Do you pay a monthly fee? Good units? Where to buy them? How do they update? Make me an informed GPS buyer! Want a unit that can be transffered from car to car BTW. Thanks!

got a Garmin last year. Just have to pay to update it every year or so, no monthly charges or anything, that way you have the correct roads and such in the system. It has a suction cup holder on it so it can easily be placed from one car into the other. I love it, works great!

Bob, my brother hacks these and usually buys the cheapest ones and puts nice software on them. Whats your budget? Could get you something with Navigon software on it for relatively cheap

I recently bought my wife a Magellan Maestro 4250 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00198QWB8/ref=ox_ya_oh_product) from amazon and we are very pleased with it. It has a nice large screen, loud/clear speaker, lots of points of interest and recalculates routes quickly. It also has bluetooth cell phone connectivity which is a nice feature for hands free calling. You can get the live traffic service for a monthly fee, but we haven't subscribed. The map updates are kind of pricey at $80 each year, but I don't know how that compares to other brands.

Some trashy motherless fuck-cocksucker broke into my girlfriends car and stole her wide screen garmin. It was awesome.

Garmin Nuvi is great, much better maps and reception then the tom tom. I have 2 Nuvis, and neither has let me down. I've never used a Magellan.

Preordered the Garmin Nuvi 1390T from Amazon.com for $399.00

I think the deadline is June 8th.

You can wait to check mine out if you want. It's portable (slim line) and has all the maps including public transit. It does voice directions along with showing street names (and announcing them). The "T" stands for Traffic, which is included.

The Garmin mount doesn't seem to stick well, but that was in the winter months. I'm not sure about the summer.

Do you have a Blackberry Bob? While it's not a good idea to use one if you are the driver only, you can get free GPS software with several plans from most providers. It's a good backup and it self-updates at no extra charge. It's handy in a pinch, or when you are with someone who does not have GPS...

In my work vehicle I have a laptop mounted on a cop-style pedestal, and I use DeLorme GPS. The screen is MUCH larger, it's safer than trying to look at the tiny screens on these Garmins and Tomtoms (or blackberrys!) You can keep your eyes on the road and a quick glance is all you need to do...

I've bought 3 Nuvi 255ws for people in the last year. If I were to buy one today I'd buy a 265wt.
