Yeah, i was going to say, so is that a stamped body with a roller tip? Go with the pro mags, they are a bit pricy but that is the only set you will ever have to buy.

I think maybe that part was used beyond it's design limitations.

I think maybe that part was used beyond it's design limitations.Neither the springs nor the cam are otherworldly wild...though not mild either. Should be well within what their rockers could be expected to handle.

My guess was either a bad part (the other 15 were fine), or, and I'm willing to admit it as I helped mark (though I don't know if I did all 16 rockers :goof ), builder error. I do recall checking to make sure each rocker rolled over the valve tip correctly as it should, so I'm inclined to believe it was simply a bad part.

The funny thing is you can't say this was a bad month for the car...the car started making the noise that led us to investigate last year, lol.

Was there danger to the manifold?

I just want to add this to this thread. It started making noise again in fall so I parked it because it was that time of year anyway. Finally got around to checking it.

there has to be something else going on here since you are destroying rockers. Too much valve spring pressure for the stamped-roller tip type rocker? Did you thoroughly check the valvetrain geometry before assembling it? Maybe you are getting rocker bind?

I agree the Summit-brand rockers are most definitely MOST of the culprit here being that they are off-shore made parts. After seeing what happened to that first rocker and how the entire thing came apart, I would have changed out all of them right away with Comp rollers or similar roller rockers...for example. These aren't all that pricey and would work great in most street applications. Includes ploylocks and the whole shebang

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-1305-8/ (not sure what studs you have in those heads)

I am changing them out. I didnt really drive the car all that much last year. That and no money at the time meant no new rockers. I dont see how the pin coming out would have anything to do with geometry though.

oh and I'm getting the Comp golds

You are pretty lucky! When the roller fell out of the harland sharp roller rocker on our race car it released the keepers on the valve spring and dropped the valve. We had to obviously replace the valve and guide, but were able to save the piston. Since you have had problems with two rockers now I would pull them off and replace the with comp cams pro magnums. Otherwise it could end up costing you a bunch of money in the long run!

the pin coming out would be a sign of lack of quality of the chinese-made rocker for sure...which I agree with. Destroying a rocker like you did the first time though would lead me to believe something else could be going on IE too much valvespring pressure for a stamped-style rocker. But hey, just button her back up and pray! :)

get that shit together we got a race this summer as soon as i get new skins :rolf
