the thought of buying a used x-box is kind of scary for me otherwise i would be all over this sweet action.

theres nothing wrong with it at all, plays flawless, and it was serviced by MS for the RROD error. All i know they could of sent me a new one.

Ill ship it for free ;)

does this one hook up to the tv via an HDMI cable?? or is that something that only the newer ones have?

Yes only the newer ones have the HDMI, this ones uses the composite or componet hookups, but can use digital audio via optical
