I need some clean fill if anyone has lots of dirt they'd like to get rid of. Actually it doesn't have to be completely clean, but it's going in our yard so large rocks, garbage, etc... is a no-go. If you've got a truck/trailer to drop it off with that'd be even better.

Thanks,
Wes

what if it has glass in it?

Um... considering I'd like my kids to be able to play in the yard... that would probably be bad.

put a post on CL. My parents filled in their in ground pool last fall and some landscaper gave it to use for free. Look in the services are and put it under farm/garden or landscaping....forget what is there.

Find anything? I need about 30 yards.

Everyone has it, but no one will deliver it

You need fill or brown dirt? HUGE difference.

Everyone I've asked about this has suggested to call Certified in New Berlin.

Fill. Not going to be growing anything there, parking cars/trailer on it.

Maybe I need dirt then... because I need to fill in that hole (and then plant grass seed) next to where the new sidewalk was put at the bottom of our retaining wall.

How big was the hole, I don't remember seeing one big enough to need much? Brown dirt is best for grass, and 1 yard is a pick up bed full fyi. 30 bucks a yard is about garden soil is selling for, so 25-28 / yard for brown dirt.

Well we need it in other areas of our yard as well, but that particular hole is about a 1/2 to 1 foot deep by 8 feet, by 2 feet. I would think a yard or two would probably be all we'd need for the back yard.

Length x width x # of inches deep divided by 324 = the number of cubic yards needed for the job.

Should take a tad more than half a yard to fill that hole (~0.59), and the rest might be enough to spot cover.
Try 1yd first, see if it's enough.

What about settling... is there a rule of thumb for filling an area so you don't end up with sunken spot later?

You will want to roll it after putting it down so its not spongy, you can rent rollers from like ACE or True Value.

Or borrow my roller.

I may do that Greg, but, dealing with the stuff in the basement comes first. I just thought if anyone had some and could dump a pile in my yard somewhere it'd be handy.
