I've never camped ever in my life and I want to take a friend. I have no idea where to go or how to even start searching. I want somewhere close, I did a quick search and saw Kettle Moraine South Camping (Pine Woods Campground). Anyone been there?

How do you go about reserving a campground?
About how much is it?
Any other fees or things I should know about?

I've gone up north and stayed in cabins, but never anything with a tent. So I'm a total camping noob asking how the F do I go about doing this.

Usualy they have a web page or you can find the phone number through yahoo or something. Most take credit card or will reserve the site and let you pay when you get there. Depending where you go $20 and up a night for a tent sight which usualy gets you 1 car and 2 people.

If your taking a girl out camping, you might want to go camping once first. Or you might end up showing her how bad a weekend of camping can go. lol.

Best advice is to get as drunk as humanly possible. That's the only way sleeping in a tent is any fun once you are over the age of 13.

LOL it is with a girl and I already have a negative attitude towards camping, thus I've never gone... this is going to be interesting :alcoholic

Montelo is a nice close area with a lot of good private campgrounds. If you never went camping in a tent before, only go 2 nights and bring a lot of beer (seriously!).

Along the same lines, what if someone wants to rent a camper (pull behind type), any ideas on that?

There is a place on Howell by the airport that rents RVs. East side of the street across from the Clark station. IIRC
Also Hanna Trailer might have info. Call and ask for Mark Brown.

Good call, thanks! If I cannot find anything bigger I will go with that. If anybody has a trailer they don't mind renting out 7/9-7-12 let me know as well.

a number of privately owned campgrounds rent trailers (24ft and up) that are on a site and ready to use. So there's no pulling a trailer and spending 1/2 of the day leveling it and setting everything up.

We own property at this place.... www.rbresort.com and they will rent out tent sites or fully loaded RV's if tenting isn't your thing.

Waterpark for the chitlins, plenty to do for everyone. Nobody I've sent out has been disappointed.

It's out by Johnson Creek/Watertown so you feel like you're getting away but it's only a tad over an hour in the car from Milwaukee.

So the RiverBend one is $40/night and the Pine Woods Campground in Kettle Moraine is only $10-14/night? Seems like quite the difference.

^^ Yes. Did you want to poop in a hole or actual bathroom? Swim in a leach filled pond or water park?

Also- a lot of campgrounds have campers they rent out, just search online. They are not that expensive to rent either. About what a nice hotel would be.

IIRC, you can get like 4-6 people in for that same $40. Like the other poster said, you're paying for a swimming pool with waterslides, volleyball courts, live entertainment every Saturday, hot showers, indoor restrooms, restaurant/bar on-site, electricity and running water on every site, etc.

It just depends on how "rough" you feel like camping

I guess I'm looking for a basic campground with just basic amenities (toilet and shower) and roomy enough where you are left alone and can just drink and enjoy nature. Maybe a nice long hike too.

I cant help you with campgrounds in the area because I'm way up north, but a few things for tent camping are: Get a Coleman Quick bed air mattress, it will make your sleeping MUCH nicer and roots/twigs in your back. Are you looking to buy gear for camping or just using what you have?

Just using what I have. I might pick up an air mattress though.

if you're looking for the basic campground without all the amenities, any one of the state parks will do, they're all nice. Check the DNR website for a list of campgrounds with reservation instructions.

I would assume the sites would have some sort of scummy grill that you can cover with foil, but you may want to get yourself a cheap wire tripod for cooking your meals. They work very well for pretty much anything and are only like $10-$15.

Other than that just bring enough clothes with spare undies in case you have an accident (maybe I'm the only one that happens to?), your bathroom shit, whatever food you plan on eating, dont forget ketchup and forks and napkins and crap like that. I have a checklist I use every time I pack, I could type it out quick and email it to you, it really does make life easier, its real easy to forget the little stuff, and it sucks realizing you need it in the woods.
