Well I'm selling my bike and getting a 4th gen. I am very broad with what I want. I'm looking for one of many things, a 93+ z28, a 98+ v6, or preferably a 98+ ss. Is there anything I should look out for? Any known problem years? Any recommendations? T tops are going to be a must, and I prefer a 6 speed. Color isn't much of a big deal. What am I looking at spending? Any advice is appreciated!

Get to know ls1tech.com there is so much info on there it's unreal. Just start searching and you will find lots of info. I would personally go with a 01-02 if you can find one in your price range. They already have the ls6 intake on them and even have a slightly better stock exhaust if you can find on that is still stock.

Wait a little bit longer. For whatever reason, 99up and especially 01-02s are still REALLY expensive compared to what they should be using normal depreciation curves. When the fifthgens are more common maybe they'll come down in price.

That's because they're LS1s! They're never going to be dirt cheap.

The guy with the 98 LS1 red car with the cowl hood might be interested in trading my bike for the car so we shall see if I get into an LS1 camaro!

yea the 01-02's are the best years to get they don't have any pcv oil issues i heard the earlier ones did. the ls6 intake so no swap neccesary. I've also been told some came with ls6 heads witch of course mine did not :( they don't have stronger rear ends tho :goof

LS6 blocks your thinking of. All them came with the standard 241 heads yet.

I've heard of this. Was it only 02 models or did some 01s have it? Also it was hit or miss no?

Having owned both I'd say the ride, interior, etc... is so much better. I'd take the goat over my t/a any day of the week for a DD. :thumbsup
However for a fun go fast LSX you can't go wrong with a 4th gen fbody.

hit or miss both years, my car bing an 01' that was built in aug of 00' had the ls6 block. something like 10% of V8 car prod between both years had them.

How can you tell the diff between the two?...........

I believe the only way to tell is to look at the block behind the driver side head. It should have part number 12561168. I'm sure Tom will verify this. I've also heard that on the ls1 blocks there is a "bullseye" under the coolant cross over tube on the block and there isn't one on the ls6 block but I am not sure if that is true or not. I have never payed attention to that before. I don't think there is any significant advantage over the ls6 block and the ls1.

Yeah i can tell by looking at the valley if it has the bullseye or not. also if the block is super bright alum its an ls1 block where the 6 is dull dark silver.

I had a 95 Z28 with the LT1. Sure the ls1 may be touched by the hand of god but the lt1 is still is a pretty good motor. I made 366/368 at the wheels with bolt ons and a CC306 cam. Ran 12.3s @114 mph. If you aren't looking to go crazy fast the LT1 is a great bang for your buck.

now i'm gana look at my block lol not like it really matters but now i'm curious. The real down side to the lt1 cars is they are a giant pain to work on put a set of headers on a lt1 car and swap a set on an ls1 its alot easier on the ls1 car thats for shure
