anyone have a hookup on buying bulk amounts of gravel, sand, and topsoil? I badly badly need to construct a french drainage system in my backyard as its becoming a lake everytime it rains, and each year its getting worse and worse. My backyard almost NEVER gets 100% dry, and then the dogs run over it and rip it up and im drastically losing the amount of grass back there. I don't currently have any specific measurements of how much of each I will need, however I DO know that I will need more gravel then anything else. I will need a relatively coarse gravel. Anyone have a hookup on that?

I would try the local towns to see what they have available in terms of fill. Most times its free so they dont have to pay to get rid of it plus they drop it off too.

yoo, are you talking like local DPW's/Recycling centers? The cheapest I can do this the better.

the local oak creek yard has some gravel as I recall. wouldn't take much sifting to get the bigger pieces of gravel that I want. if its free, then that'd be great. thanks for the idea yoo!

Yoo is on the $ !!!

Most of the time they just want to get rid of it, saves them $$$

gravel really shouldn't be that expensive, if you can't find it at a dump a asphalt plant/gavel pit wouldn't be that expensive.

It might be cheaper to put in some drain tile. Drain tile might be more ideal because you wont need to totally tear up your yard.

agreed if you really want to do it right rent a trencher and pitch it out rather deep then the last 5-10 feet fill in with grave then top soil. we have done this on a few fields out at the farm and its rather effective

i wont be totally tearing up my yard. just about a 1ft wide section wherever im buying the pipe. im afraid a draintile wont get the job done, I need to channel the water AWAY from the yard

all you did is reiterate what the others already said. from inspecting my yard and having a few years of experience with aquatic biology work, and my neighbor having many many years in aquatic biology work and a 4 year degree in it, I'm satisfied with my drainage plans. and btw I wasnt asking for help with my drainage problem, I posted looking for help finding gravel. reread the original post. kthxbye
